Ok Guys I dont know if Naim "listen" to these things but I thought, why not express our interest in such a product anyway!

You can leave your comments after signing the petition and I will forward it to Naim (the signatures and comments) once signatures reach some sort of critical mass...

The idea is basically a XS Series (Mid Range) streamer without amplification and price according to the range.

Some of us feel that the Uniti and Classic ranges are pretty well taken care of, but not the 'guys in the middle' who already have a system set up and would like to integrate a streamer a-la-Sonos but do not wish to give in the compromises of the Uniti all-in-one ethos (nor pay for amp sections) and at the same time want to stick to the brand we all love!

The problem is not the idea of powerful streamers v wonderful dacs it is the current state of the software used to manage the streaming.

Naim are a hardware company dipping a toe into the world of software. Their hardware is brilliant but in the digital world that is not enough anymore. Like Linn, Naim have realised the audiophile world is changing fast and although they can still use their engineering schtick as a unique selling point (with or without silly names) they are selling software now as well.

It will not always go to plan - witness the sense of frustration in the strands devoted to firmware updates.

Apple learnt a while ago that in a competitive electronics world software is king. Sure you need good kit but your competitors will soon catch up even if you are living in a comfortable little niche. Get the software right and then it all falls into place. You could argue there are better phones than the iPhone - but better phone software?

Right now UPnP is just not good enough - quit obsessing about new Naim streaming hardware and hope they get the software right for the stuff they already have out at the moment.

"It's the software stupid"

Likes,

I don't mind akward questions, but you state:

surely an NDX on a network should sound better than a Naim DAC driven by a pc connected through a third party USB/SPDIF interface and cabling

Why do you assume that the NDX on a network (your favourite issue Winker ) should sound better than an attached PC? On what do you base this assumption?
You give your assumption additional weight by your use of the adverb "surely", as if anything else would be incomprehensible.

But you haven't heard the NDX so that makes your assumption groundless to me.

Likewise your remarks elsewhere about the use of expensive PSU's on an expensive Naim DAC that "doesn't draw any substantial current". Which, I challenged you, you probably didn't even hear.

These, for me, are trolling remarks, only geared towards stirring emotions without bringing anything to the discussion.
