A short course in video connections welcome, please

Having just ascertained that my video connection >DVD5 to Projector< only ranks fifth in the DVD5's handbook list of options (YPbPr,3 RCAs cable - component, in a word - to YPbPr, 3 RCAs input in the video display), and having considered buying a Naim RGB cable, at the obvious and unavoidable risk of looking a simpleminded, uninformed amateur, could someone explain to me the difference between YPbPr and RGB (protocol? Sockets? Inputs?) and give me a word on compatibilities? What the difference would be in using >RGB< instead of >YPbPr< at the same DVD5's output sockets?
Yes, I know there's Wikipedia, but thanks for anyone's time.

I'm reading the AV2 manual thorough, and done some research on the net. I think this post can be closed, thanks.
