It is a very good album although it did take 3 listens before I came to that conclusion.

.

Haven't heard the album, but heard him do a song on some late night show (Letterman? Conan?) and it sounded very good to me.

The man is a remarkably prolific song writer, and creates some gorgeous melodies.

Re 'Cold Roses' - Yes; it can take a while. I seem to keep playing CD1 rather than CD2, which contains some delightful songs.

Two more CD's are promised from RA this year.

If you like this, check out Ryan's early promise on Whiskeytown's 1997 'Strangers Almanac'; which is a delightful album. He was David Ryan Adams then, and this album also features the beautiful voice of Caitlin Cary.

I think this is a great album. Ryan Adams is a major talent who will ,perhaps, only be fully appreciated in years to come. The critics seem to have moved on to another flavour of the month some time ago and he is not really getting the recognition. He is very prolific, but artistes always used to be, it is only in the last 20 years or so where they have taken 2-3 years to record an album! So far I feel all his records have value and he is unafraid to experiment.

This is a real grower - I thought he had lost his way somewhat with Love is Hell 1 & 2, but there are some real gems here. Part of me thinks there is a great single CD here, but I also like to hear how he evolves.

Am looking forward to seeing him live in a few weeks time, especially when he plays Summer of '69 Winker

I had to laugh. I read that he purposely made the CD 1 minute or so over the time for a single CD so the record company had to issue it as double. Sounds like Mr Adams alright!!!!!

Mind you there is a definite shortage of characters around at the moment.

I must say I am a bit of a fan of young Mr Adams - his Heartbreaker and the Bob Harris programme actually stimulated me to get back into listening to and making music after some considerable time having thought when we got to 1972 the world had the best it was ever going to get.

I think he has a major talent - something of the spirit of Gram Parsons in him. Cold Roses on vinyl really is outstanding. I agree record 1 is full of great tunes but record 2 is a grower too.

Apparently he is going to issue two more full albums this year - prolific or what! Just hope his label keeps faith. The third album is to be produced by Ethan Johns - another amazing talent and the producer of Heartbreaker as well as numerous other Americana/Country output including the Kings of Leon. I hear he is the son of Glyn Johns - who was a major contributor to my music first time round and the producer of the first two Eagles albums as well as various Stones albums. The circle comes round!

I thought CD1 was contrived and annoying (so far, It'll probably grow on me) I think CD2 is excellent. Most artists release a handful of songs they write. I think RA releases them all...
