controlling hdx, naimservers or Linn ds from pc or mobil phone

I have tried to ask this before, but got no real answer.
Because I am blind I will need to control any music server from a device wich has speech or braille output not just a regular screen.
In my current situation this means either a pc running Windows xp, a mobil phone running the latest version of the symbion OS, or a pocket pc running Windows mobil 2003.
In another threat it is said that the HDX can be controlled either through a browser on a pc or a desktop application. Will the desktop application be created by Naim, if so I hope it will be programmed so it can be operated not only by using a mouse but also by using the keyboard.
The same is true for a mobile phone version of the application.
I have tried to find out wich of the Linn applications to install on my laptop, knowing that I will have to take it down to the local dealer to find out if or how it works. I have installed the LinnGui application but not the control application, and with no Linn boxes here and only the LinnGui on my laptop nothing can be done at all, but it may be because I need to install more software? I have installed the required .net version 2.

Claus,
The Linn Config application is not required by LinnGUI, it's used for configuring a DS across the network, e.g. display settings, etc, flashing new firmware into the DS, diagnostics and so on.
If LinnGUI starts up without any error messages then .NET has been installed correctly on your laptop, however if it cannot detect a DS on your network then the display will be empty.

Off-topic, but how have you managed to address music library access (records, CDs) to date?

So With Linngui installed I can take the laptop down to the dealer put it on their network and see how the interface to their Climax ds looks or rather behaves on my pc?

By putting braille labels on the discs! Now with the internet I can search info on tracks and artists but the important thing beeing able to know wich cd I put in the cd player is done this way. Of course this means I have to label all new cds, something I try to keep up with, and I think I am 10 cds behind on the labelling currently.

You will need to install the version of LinnGUI that matches the firmware installed on the Klimax DS. Just in the last week or so there has been a firmware update for the DS machines. The firmware version and associated PC applications (like LinnGUI) have 'family' names. The original DS firmware was called Auskerry and required an Auskerry version of LinnGUI and Linn Config. The latest DS firmware is called Bute and requires Bute versions of the PC apps.
I'd suggest that you contact your dealer ahead of time to find out which firmware he has running in the Klimax DS and then download and install the appropriate version of LinnGUI. You can establish which version of the Linn GUI you already have installed as it will say Auskerry or Bute as part of the application name in the Windows title bar.
Auskerry and Bute versions of LinnGUI are available in the support area on Linn's website.

Hi allan,
I downloaded the bute version. I suppose that with a Linn person on site it is most likely this version, but I will ask the dealer. Do you have a DS and if so do you know if you have to use the mouse to operate the Ds?

Claus,
Bute actually sounds noticeably better than Auskerry so it's quite likely that this is what will be in the dealer's DS.
Yes, I have a DS here and I've just given LinnGUI running on my desktop PC a quick 'Accessibility Test'. Although many features are available using the arrow-keys, enter key etc. I found some things difficult to navigate to without a Mouse or pointing device (LinnGUI is actually designed to run on a tablet PC with a touch screen). I'd give it 5 out of 10 for accessibility.
In the main, I use a Nokia N800 Internet Tablet running Nokia's UPnP compatible Media Streamer software to control the DS.
Check out the Linn forum. Linn has made LinnGUI an Open Source product and there is a Developers community section on there for encouraging development of this and other control point software for the DS. One of the participants there (Rik from plancd.com) is about to release an iTouch/iPhone/Mac GUI for the DS. Maybe you could hook up with some of those guys to see what they offer or encourage them or Linn to incorporate more keyboard support.

Yesterday we tried to see if I could control a Climax DS from my laptop but no luck. my Screen reader, could not read the information that is on the screen. Some commands worked from the keyboard e.g. moving to the next track on a play list, but if you cannot get the text it makes little sense. I am told buy one of my friends that this problem is normal when we use a screen reader on xp, maybe Vista would work better, but I will have to try other things.
In theory it should be possible to get a webpage up with information from the DS, this will work since surfing in general works, I wonder if it is possible to access the ds if I find its ip adress and just try to open it in ie7.
On the Linn forum there is a discussion about alternative gui interfaces, but the only Windows alternative Cidero mediacontrolller, has other problems, it is a Java application and Java applications does only work if they are coded correctly and I am not going to spend a lot of time trying to find out if this can work.
I am hoping that the Naim products will be easier to control. I seem to remember that the plan is to make it possible to control the servers through a pc using a browser or maybe a flash application.
