Linn Kans and Naxo2

Posted by: miles on 06 March 2003

Hi all,

i have bought a pair of Linn Kan2s with the stands (should receive them in about a week) just out of interest as I figure I can sell them on with no loss, or maybe even a little profit Wink if i don't like them.

At the moment I shall be using them with a Nait5. However I have read in this forum how good they are when driven actively. Now, I have seen a Naxo2 for sale very cheap but it is very old (serial# 0062!!) I would like to know if this is suitable for them if, say, in the future I bought a couple of nap150s or better.

Sorry if this has already been covered but couldn't find a definitive answer.

Also, (sorry) the serialno.s of the kans are 49069,49070. These i believe are 'with kustone' but what exactly does this mean?

Ok, thanks for reading my post.

Miles.

You're lucky - you have a pair of what, in my opinion, are the very best Kans. Don't even think about selling them until you've heard what they can do in a better system. Kustone is a damping material used by Linn in some speakers and stands.

Sorry I can't answer your question about active operation but I'm sure plenty of other forum members can...

Thanks to those who replied. Just gotta wait for the speakers to come now!!

Think The Naxo is probably worth buying just in case...

Thanks,

If the Naxo is set up for SBLs then as MartinC says the difference in set up for kans is minimal. In fact I've got a SBL Naxo working with kans in my set up at the moment and it sounds fab. It would be possible to re-jig the naxo for kans - the settings for the tweeter are identical (as the SBL and kan tweeter is the same) but the kan bass settings go a bit higher before rolling off than on the SBL.

One point though, if the naxo is as old as you say, I'd be suprised if it was set up for SBLs as it would pre-date SBLs by many years. It could well already be set up for kans anyway, or maybe Saras (don't know if the sara settings are the same). As you know the serial no, why don't you drop Salisbury a line and ask them if they know what it's original settings were and whether it's been changed?
