Cool! i loved 'Last Man On Earth' and i'm in the process of hunting down '...Choppers' (I may rephrase that!!) Well spotted. I'll be there.

Great - I have loads of his stuff, though 'Choppers' is a bit too AOR for me.

What's AOR?

Got quite a few of his earlier albums as well, but find it hard to listen to a full album, normally play one side of an LP only.

I'm no expert on the guy. i previously owned 'Therapy' by him and found it a bit of a curates egg, but not so 'last man'.

Adult Oriented Rock.

Dull, dull, dull.

I thought AOR meant Any Old Rubbish - perhaps I've been reading Record Collector reviews for too long.

LWIII is certainly not AOR - anyone who can write "Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road" is all right by me.

The song about recognising a clenched fist sends shivers thru me

Absolutely marvellous evening's tele! He's looking better as he gets older. If he'd only done 'The Hardy Boys at The Y' my evening would be complete.

Agreed - it was worth getting the freeview box after all. LWIII was superb.

I thought tonight was fantastic. He's an artist I've always liked although my knowledge of his stuff is quite limited, and I've only ever had a couple of his albums. I've many friends who are real fans and whenever I hear his stuff I think "I really should hear much more of him" so I ordered "Career Moves" from Amazon tonight as a starter. What else is recommended?

I saw him at the Apollo in Glasgow in 1976 and he was just about the most entertaining artiste I've ever seen.

Ugh. Have to say I was a little horrified.

Certainly he looks much better as he gets older. No doubt he has benefitted from the freedom of his lack of involvement with little Rufus and Martha!!!

Sorry if that's a bit scathing but his entire catalogue takes on a vaguely sinister, unappetising, slightly misogynistic, misanthropic taste when one puts it in the context of his life. Unpalatable really and that's a line I rarely draw.

Uneasy listening for sure - and rather splendid.

He sings about the reality of life - 'Hitting You' (about slapping his young daughter too hard) is quite wonderful, and one imagines that the song still serves as pennance for the regrettable act.

And anyone who can take the piss out of the blues is OK by me (and I like the blues).

Like Dylan, Neil Young and others, there is nothing technically special about his vocal abilities or guitar playing; but his performances delight, nevertheless.

A rare and unusual songwriter and performer.
