Warning: This thread could seriously damage your wealth (part 2)

Having previously extolled the virtues of the Amazon Marketplace, I thought it might be nice to have a thread for suggesting bargains we may have spotted.

By way of example, and to start things off, this arrived yesterday:

And what a wonderful set it is - 21 discs of Fischer Dieskau singing Schubert's lieder (have only listened to the first disc so far, but it was absolutely captivating - and I don't really count myself as much of a lieder fan). And for just £31!

Dear Tam,

The price is excellent, but wouldn't you prefer having differnt singers doing the lieder?

I rarely end up with box sets of large works, because I much prefer a variety of interpretations and styles, though it is much harder to assemble the complete work without overlaps.

Haim

Dear Haim,

This is probably very true - and I suspect once I've finished exploring this I shall branch out and do just that. Out of interest, do you know any of the Hyperion series?

Dear Tam!
Amazon marketplace hides a lot for few.
When i do make my choice between the several offers i always find NEW records for peanuts and the larger part of them comes from USA.
It's lovely to read prices and think that you can buy without feeling guilty somehow!

Goodbye and Hello - Tim Buckley
Cheap as chips and a damn sight healthier, pass this through the school gates instead!

Dear Tam,

Unfortunately, no. I have only one disc of lieder (DG) with Kathleen Battle and another with Renee Fleming (London).

My favorite Schubert for voice is Andreas School's Kantate (Cantates baroques allemandes) on harmonia mundi.

You owe yourself a listen to it.

Best regards,

Haim

Thanks for the recommendation Haim.

A few more bargains. On the basis that Graham's recent recommendations have been a treat, I tracked down Gilels playing Beethoven sonatas. Also, this set of Schubert symphonies from Colin Davis and the Dresden Staatskapelle.
