Fleetwood Mac compilation CD

Posted by: J.N. on 29 January 2004

Just got this cracking FM compilation CD with 21 gems on it, spanning from 'Man Of The World' and 'Albatross' to 'Tusk' and beyond.

But.......... the really good bit is that there is reference to remastering and it sounds like it!

The 'Rumours' tracks on this compilation, piss on my Japanese made CD of the said classic album.

I'd heard rumours that 'Rumours' was at last being properly remastered. Anyone with knowledge?

I thought the recording quality of the latest album 'Say You Will' was absolute crap by the way.

To avoid any confusion; the excellent compilation to which I am alluding is dated 2002 and is catalogue number 8122 73635 2.

They were talking about this yesterday on the local fm radio. One of Portland's most knowledgable dj's, Kevin Welch, was talking about the "new 24-bit remastered release of FM's 'Rumors' ", which will be featured on a show Saturday night Pdx time and played in its entirety. So, re-orient that antenna for 101.2
on the fm dial or check out www.kink.fm for possible further info.

Hi Jeff

Bit tricky picking up your local FM (frequency modulation, not Fleetwood Mac!) radio here in the UK, but thanks for the info.

I've mentioned before that I use your local CD store Djangos by mail order for my USA discs and find them very helpful.

You may have seen my recent rant about UK FM radio being pants, having been spoiled by some great FM rock radio stations on my recent trip to Las Vegas and Arizona.

My mate Jeff Anderson lives just round the corner - Spooky!

The "re-orient the antenna" line was a bit tongue in cheek. Smile

American FM radio isn't what it used to be, but there are several stations who still maintain some independent thinking and are actually programmed locally rather than all syndication.

I have listened to kink.fm 102 for nearly twenty-five years. The am drive-time (5am-9am) dj has been there since 1979 and Kevin Welch, the program director, is very very knowledgable and when he substitutes for one of the "on-air" slots makes for a very interesting time.

Good listenin'

I've been listening to several Mac albums today and will continue to while watching the super bowl. Started with Mystery to Me and then Future Games, listened to Tusk just two evenings ago, I like their early period but Tusk was good too. Don't own a present copy of Rumours tho had it when it came out, it was a smash. Although I think my all time fav is Heros are Hard to Find, the first one I ever owned. I think I'm in love with Christine McVie... just great words, piano and guitar licks all around.

Picked up "The Very Best of" yesterday and love it. Always enjoyed the FM songs but have rarely bought the albums.

Anybody else love Lindsey's early '90's solo "Out Of The Cradle"? I listen to that disc endlessly.

The Rumours CD that as been on sale since 1987 or so is in fact a re-master. It is also a re-mix. The fact that it is a truely horrible re-mix is the problem.

The original CD made from 1983 to 1987 is the original mix, and that CD is rather fine (easily as good as my US LP). You can tell which one you are listening to by the start of 'Gold Dust Women', if it fades up its the original mix, if it starts 'cold' its the remix.

If the new re-master is of the 1987 re-mix, well it may well be horrible too. The tracks on the compilation are from original mix, and sound like the old, first generation disc to me.

Complicated eh?

If you're a fan of the early stuff try and get hold of a copy of "Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac" on Simply Vinyl.

It'll blow you away.

I was nerdy enough to buy both.
