Bend it like Beck?

With the wife out and the kids upstairs on the computers, I thought it was an ideal opportunity for me to get acquainted with Beck last night as a concert of his recorded in the Union Chapel was being shown on BBC4 and I could crank up the stereo.
So there he was on stage with just him and an acoustic guitar, as a fan of acoustic music, I thought that this looked promising but I could not think of any aspect of his performance that attracted me.
The guitar playing was fairly rudimentary, the singing was unremarkable and lyrics and the tunes completely passed me by so I could not remember which song was which. After a while he stumble over to a piano and was no better on that. I turned over for a while and when I came back he was on an electric keyboard with a drum machine presumably to try and liven up the proceedings, so I switched off got my guitar out and sounded a lot worse than he did but then no one in their right mind would pay money to hear me perform.
As she’s out again tonight I shall be listening to the Rory Gallagher tribute on Radio 2 shortly – now there was someone who could play the guitar a bit…
