If a secondhand preamp had been boxed for 5 years say, would it need to be run in again?

I would say its highly likely that it will sound much better after say a week of regular use compared to straight out the box. I would even say that this applies to kit that has only been off for a week although its warm up rather than burn-in.
If it had to have a service there may be some burn in.
