Best rap hip/hop last 20 years?

Posted by: Big Brother on 14 August 2006

Not much to add to this..Rap doesn't get much mention in these forums that being taken over by skinny white boys and dead germans.. I'll start it off with my picks...Public Enemy: He Got Game,/ Eminem;Encore /De La Soul; Buhloon Mindstate / Wu- Tang Clan; Enter the Wu-Tang / Gohstface Killah; Fishscale / Black Star; Enta Da Stage..... Anymore suggestions...these are all more favorites than 'seminal' albums or classics per say...maybe something more off the beaten track....?

I don't think so.
I know all of them and many more but, sorry, they are only a small part in the fish tank.
Thanks for the "old farty".

Well, Pete Rock should be mentioned. ( by far the best )

I sort of like DJ Frankie Bones. ( act like you know )
I don't listen to the 'Gangsta rap' because they are just too repetitive, but Outkast or Jurasic Five ( power by numbers! ) are cool.

Also, I love the NWH

Hey, you ain't been around here long enough. Most folks think that self-indulgent 70's snoozefest (referred to as DSOTM) is the high point of Western culture. Don't scare the pants off the old dears with any of that new fangled stuff.

bb / malky,

My 50 cents would be: Grand Master Flash, Sugar Hill Gang, Coolio, Warren G, Shaggy, Run DMC, R Kelly, 2Pac, Tupak Shakur. But then I also listen to DSOTM.

Definitely will get the DMC comp Greatest Hits from 2002, those early days were too early for me so I missed some classics!!

I used to have (until I sold my vinyl) a brilliant Sugar Hill compilation called 'Rapped Uptight'. My fave track from it was Grandmaster Flash's The Message, but all the tracks are good.

The music and lyrics were great at that time, but there seems to be too much hos, bitches and the like currently, but give me the Streets over Rainbow any day.
