CD-Now's highly informative and useful web-site, complete with comprehensive discographies, artist biographies, recording credits etc. disappearing and being swallowed up by Amazon.
Suddenly all the interesting stuff has gone and all you get now is a carbon copy of Amazon's own anodyne and superficial site, which on a rating of 1-10 scores about minus 3 for content and usability.
That really is my 'downer' of the Year - what's yours?

Yes, that's right. The only caveat, and it's a major one, is that AMG's information is not always accurate. For instance, under my own listing, some (but not all) of my recordings are listed, as well as those of an older tenor sax player also named Fred Simon who played with Lionel Hampton and dizzy Gillespie as far back as the 1940s. No matter how many times I've written to politely ask them to amend their info (they provide a form to do so) they have never even responded, much less correct the mistakes.
Bottom line: all info on the web is suspect until proven accurate.

Having looked at the AMG web-site in detail, it seems the information is much the same as that which CD-Now used to have but it won't allow you to link directly to an artist profile, so it's virtually useless for my purposes.
I use the Music Collector cataloguing system and had set it up so there was a direct link to each artist's profile on CD-Now, which was very useful. These links are now dead and I can't re-link them to AMG - so a useful facility is now caput thanks to Amazon.
