Mac book

A little help from Mac users if I can....
My PC is on it's last legs so am planning to replace with a Mac. Usage will be relatively basic - editing pics and dvd's, surfing the net and of course audio, hence my questions here. My questions:
1) given my relatively basic needs I think I only need a note book (£c900), however I prefer the larger screen but the 15" is a pro and costs c£700 more - for my needs is the extra cash worth it in terms of speed etc.
2) any good sites to buy notebooks?
3) how risky is refurb/second hand buying?
Any help would be appreciated

1. Its much faster and much better hence the price difference.
2. Apple.com Macbooks don't sell through the same distribution nodes as normal pcs
3. The apple store has a refurb section, with the same warrenty so a good buy. Also has an education discount if anyone in the family is at school or college.
4. You never asked but I don't see the sense in tethering a mobile laptop to a hifi, its why mac minis exist.

Thanks Gary, re point 4 I have been playing with spotify and it's pretty handy to listen to new music before purchase - saves ££££ on duff purchases with just one good song! So I was planning to plug Mac into Uniti, I can also playback pod casts from Mac- the uniti plays them but you can't pause forward or rewind and has a habit of dropping out - most annoying when you are 2 hours into the Bob Harris show.....hence my desire to attach Mac, unless I missing something?
Thanks for you other advice - helpful

The macbook range is tried and tested and they work fantastically, silent and stylish. I would plumb for the metal bodied pro, they must be the strongest laptops on the market (well apart from the hideous dell army laptop things)

Over the years I and my colleagues at work have had about 20 different Apple Portables and just as many Apple Desktops and servers - they have all worked faultlessly - some of the servers for mission critical applications.
