Kraftwerk's first two Al***s ?

Posted by: vlada on 27 May 2010

Does anyone know where to get the first two Albums from Kraftwerk:
1) Kraftwerk, released 1970 (Philips)
and
2) Kraftwerk II, released 1971 (Philips)
on CD or FLAC ?

Thank you very much!

I have heard some songs from them and I really like what they have done there!

A forum member, who doesn't post at the moment, gave me these two albums on vinyl - they are superb. Very different from the later stuff, which I like too.

You can order these on CD from the Amazon Marketplace - they were re-issued recently so shouldn't be too hard to find.

Kraftwerk 1 and 2 have never been officially released on CD. As I understand it, all the copies available are counterfeit or unofficial and unsanctioned releases.

However, the Kraftwerk reissue programmes is said to alight on these two shortly. So sometime in the next decade perhaps.

Perhaps you could bide your time with Cluster or Can!

Martin, Thorsten, ROTF, thank you very much. Indeed the 1-st two albums (maybe the first 3) have never been officially released on CD. However there are Bootlegs available and you can indeed get them through UK Amazon Marketplace. The very stupid thing is that Amazon UK Marketplace does does not serve Austria. :-(

Hi Thorsten, as you suggested I have checked PBTHAL's blog. Thank you for the advice. However, this situation make me think again if selling, my entire vinyl collection on the LP12 was that a good idea :-)

Neither album has been released on CD, and both are very highly sought-after on vinyl.

The first album (Ruckzuck/Stratovarious/Megaherz/Vom Himmel Hoch) is an absolute corker. It also has a fabulous gatefold cover.

The second (Kling Klang/Atem/Strom/Wellenlange/Spule 4/Harmonika) is much more patchy and is occasionally quite tedious.

You can, as others have pointed out by others, get them on semi-legit bootlegs, but they're not of great quality.

Best of the pre-Autobahn albums is Ralf Und Florian, which is beautiful and contains pointers towards the direction the group would eventually take, with Kristallo and Ananas Symphonie particularly outstanding.

Many of the songs on these three albums survived into Kraftwerk's concert sets until 1976.

Look out to for the radio concert they gave for Radio Bremen in 1971.

This is a Kraftwerk without Hutter (who'd temporarily left the band), lining up as a trio of Florian Schneider, Michael Rother and Klaus Dinger. What seems clear here is that Dinger and Rother are already trying out the sound they'd perfect as Neu!.

It's very good sound quality and very good music. Again, there's never been an official release, but a check of the Blogspots will allow you to get a listen.
