Ionisers

Muchachos
With the current hot, dry spell static has become more of a problem when playing vinyl. In an attempt to cure this, I have plugged an ioniser in, near to my T/T. My thoughts where that it would cut down on static; reduce fluff accumulation on the stylus and so sound better. I forgot to unplug it last night while listening; for some reason it seemed to actually sound better all round - not just because of no fluff. Part of me thinks psychobluff along the Pete Belt line, but then, it did seem to actually sound better.
Would any of the techie types have a view on this? Is an ionised environment electrically more benign? Or is it just me?

Hi, Mike
Maybe the ioniser reminded you of the sea air and lifted you emotionally so that everything seemed better.

I seem to recall quite a few reviewers recommending ionisers in the mid 80s. Whether or not it was easier for the speakers to move ionised air or just that the listener felt more comfortable was never really ascertained.

Do you have it on a dedicated spur?

Hi there
A quick question for you - is your ioniser on Mana, Hutter or Fraim?
(Sorry I just could not resist)

I personally prefer to leave my TT's unadulterated...just plain natural breasts..........beautiful

I used one years ago because of problems playing vinyl at this time of year.
Didn't make a bit of difference and acted as a dust magnet.
Wouldn't put it anywhere remotely near the TT.

In my house my Missus is the Ironiser - wouldn't fit on the TT though - I so hope she doesn't read this...

Mike, do you use Nagoaka No. 102 anti-static inner sleeves?
Yes, they are relatively expensive, but they work like a dream. I used to have annoying static problems with vinyl on my P3 -- to the point where it was quite detrimental to the sound quality -- but after sleeving all my vinyl in 102's found the problem completely disappeared.
Failing that, you could always try one of those anti-static guns.

Welcome back John!
I am using the Nagaoka sleeves - bought them at Bristol - AND an anti static gun. Plus, a fair bit of the vinyl I have been playing has been Disco Anti Stat treated; ( Lo Fi Si has lent me his Moth - a corking piece of kit BTW ). I am a fully paid up Hi Fi nerd, I admit.
My part of the world is very dry, plus the room in which my system lives is fully carpeted.
Revisting the cleaning process, will advise.

Mike
