As another afterthought Cavvers, me Old Perry Maison of the Cider world; I'm reminded suddenly of that Jackson 5 Classic, "One Bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch girl", which is quite true I suppose generally, though many would argue that in this case, it's almost a whole arrogant complacent Semi-illiterate fucking Orchid load full of the er, buggers !!!

Yet another after-rant. Having lived in a Police environment for all of my UK stay before landing here, I reckon I'm a little bit in the know of what goes/went on. I enjoy the company often here (since the 80's as well) too of serving coppers, where we quite often get quite tipsy on occassion, and I make a great distiction between that world of Civilian policing generally, and the world of the Military (for the record and for what it's worth), the difference is vast, innit

Are you actually referring to me old chap? I would be more inclined to use the phrase entrenched (a terrible connotation of war possibly, but we shouldn't talk about it, now should we? innit).
I wonder if the Honourable member 'Redherring' is possibly a Norwegian? I feel 'I' should be told

"In the deserts of Sudan" Hitting you all with my rythum stick came to mind, but alas I have the strong feeling that many on here although owning 'very fine' instruments of musical reproduction, wouldn't know a decent tune if it slapped them in the face with a smelly kipper
Talking of Cheeseburgers, the very finest I've ever eaten in my whole life was in Liverpool Street, London, opposite the station, where along with freshly minced beef/lamb (one watches him/her actually mince it) fries quickly in 'light tasting' olive oil and garlic etc, and put into a freshly made bap (from the house)(plus whatever rabbit stuff you desire)(non of that Yankee relish bollocks either), with (the best bit) stinky Danish blue cheese on top. It's truly heavenly, and my pal JT and I would devour one (or two+) before going on a beer run on the block so to speak.
Although one can buy Bavarian Blue here (which just ain't as tasty), and considering that I'm virtually sitting on Denmarks doorstep (it's within marching & swimming distance at least) you just cannie get Danish blue here (except ironically enough in an expensive English shop) or Berlins version of Harrods, the marvellous KaDeWe down the road from here, which has a food department as good as I've seen anywhere, but hey! What the fuck do I know, innit
N.B. Our Mick! If you ever need any financial advice to help you get your 'tax problem' sorted (and Spanish/Rumanian property ownership gen as well) I know a crackin IFA (non Masonic) who'll see you allright John, just give the nod when yer ready with the readys. Now I know you think you have no tax problem/issue at present, but just in case, cos as we all know preventative intervention is the order of the day these days innit; especially now you're in urope my old Son
Is Condi a lying Bint then?

If one considers that the average age of the 77.7% of elligible voters who turned out yesterday for the Conservative leadership election was 66 years old, one could quite well be surprised by the outcome, as I myself indeed was! From what I've seen so far though (and the rest is history) if this new leader seriously gets folk believing in a Social Justice across the board, as well as infecting the land with what I feel is a quite sincere feeling of hope for a seriously 'happy-intelligent' Britain, things could well soon be on the old up and up again for the Tories, and make no mistake. I must honestly say, the guy impresses me very much (maybe I'm subconsciously a closet Tory and always have been? ) No! this man definately has something, and I'm happy to say I was wrong about Davies getting the top job, he'll do brilliantly as a lieutenant.
If this keeps up somebody may well start a 'Prime Minister soon to resign' thread on this esteemed forum, God Forbid.
Talking of God, did you know that Cameron is totally for (and has publically stated the fact) that he's very interested in the er, possibility of kicking out rotton coppers asap, and not continuing the present farce of protection in the ranks at all costs, as we so often er, see on this forum too, when people are warned to wind their necks in, using bullying agressive tones in the process, been there done it, that's why & how I know, and it stinks, Goodnight, I'm orf down the pub to start a fight with a binge-drinking yobbo
Is Condi still a lying Bint?

In interviews with Jeremy Paxman both candidates for the leadership of the Conservative party said they believed in the Imaginary Man in the Sky as though it were somehow obligatory. Very worrying.
Cameron seems generally OK, however.

quote:Originally posted by NaimDropper:quote:Now I have never thought I was inteligent. I scored zero in an IO test as a thirteen year old for example, but was never stuck with how to deal with real problems from a very early age. I know quite few highly inteligent people who seem to struggle with the basics, such as wiring plugs, or for what reason an oil light flashes on the dash-board of car, shortly before the engine stops, for two real examples. One was a brilliant Classics Scholar, but who actaully had his positive and negative back to front on his Hoover and the Earth cut off where it actually entered the plug. The other (oil pressure) was a Senior CoE Cleric. Now if you cannot apply common sense, as you suggest to sifting the chaf from the seed, then I suspect that you fall into the highly inteligent but rather stupid group of people who often do well, when others posessed of savvy, common sense, call it what you will, never get anywhere, probably because we tend to call a spade, a spade however brutal this may be.
"Intelligence" is an interesting term to define.
Your friends that are apparently "intelligent" but don't know what to do about an oil light or basics about positive and negative are, in my view, out of balance with their intellect and practical knowledge.
Being an engineer it seems that I'm always having to be the pivot point between the theoretical and the practical, the possible and the impossible, the simulation and the realization, the interpreter of the dreams of marketing into the reality of a product for the customer.
I do get very tired dealing with people that are highly paid and regarded yet don't have the slightest idea of very basic things around them.
Changing a tire (tyre) for example. Or just observing tire pressure, not running their expensive cars with about 50% of the recommended pressure, especially during the winter (PV=nRT, the pressure goes down as the temperature...).
I have a neighbor who is a high school science teacher. My past experience with these folks is that they are part physicist, part mechanic, part electrician, etc. and serve as a model for their students, bridging the practical and the academic. Not so with this guy, I had to light the pilot in his furnace once, his family was cold and he didn't know what to do. He had no idea how to light it. Couldn't be simpler and there are instructions on the furnace.
I reserve the term "intelligent" for those that have climbed the hills of academia and practical knowledge.
As to the alimentary debate, I choose the glorious saturated fat of butter over the heart-stopping glob of flavored chemicals in margarine. Doctors and scientists have been talking about the dangers of trans-fats since the 1970s at least. Trans-fats do make the product more saleable but at the expense of our health. A sensible, balanced, restricted junk carb diet allows the body to fully utilize the vitamines and nutrition in the fat.

What interest do the Banks of the Ohio muster these days I wonder?

CIA charged with torture/airspace abuse etc.
British prisoner (Belmarsh Prison) (one of many) gives an unprecedented interview TODAY NOW with a view of helping get a captured Brit in Iraq released (who in my mind shouldn't have been in a Warzone in the first place). This terror suspect (as with others in custody over 3+ years now) (even if he happens to be Satan himself), has to-date never been charged with a crime, and has never had 'Legal'representation.
