new Antonio Forcione al*** - Tears of Joy

Posted by: Anna Tooth on 03 June 2005

Hi

We finally have Antonio's long awaited brand new studio album!

Tears of Joy - Naim CD087 - is an awesome mixture of utterly compelling original material which features:

Jenny Adejayan - cello
Adriano Adewale - percussion
Igor Outkine - accordion

plus special guests:

Ronu Majumdar - bansuri
Nathan Thomson - double bass
Enzo Zirilli - drums/percussion
Alex Wilson - piano
Micheline Van Hautem - vocals

An awesome mixture of utterly compelling original material, the music on Tears Of Joy has been written, arranged and produced by Antonio Forcione. He evokes a wide range of emotions from deep contemplation to ecstatic celebration, combining technical brilliance with emotional depth.

Hailed as the ‘Jimi Hendrix’ of the acoustic guitar, award-winning Forcione is considered one of the most charismatic and inventive performers to come out of Europe in recent years. Artistic, intense and formidably inventive, Antonio transcends the familiar preconceptions of jazz guitarist, playing a vibrant and evocative music described by Jazz FM as “world music with a universal appeal”.

His remarkable originality stems from his creative quest to use every imaginable part of the acoustic guitar without losing sight of a refined musical sense, playing music tinged with echoes of African, flamenco, Brazilian, classical and blues with a hint of Indian Raga.

Jazzwise say in their current June edition:

"Recorded at Red Kit Studios in Wales, the sonic quality is absolutely first class. Taking sole writing, arranging and production credits, Forcione must surely be considered one of the most dynamic and imaginative guitarists on the contemporary scene"

And Hi Fi Choice say:

"Forcione remains one of Europe's guitar heroes; quick, powerful, positive, melodic and above all - he swings"

Will signed copies be available at any point (frustrated at HMV no show)?

I had a copy sent by Naim last week! I like the new album but feel it is not one of his best.I have played it through four times now and my first thoughts have not changed but still I am very pleased to have it in my collection and it is worth a listen to, its much better that his last one!

I received it today along with the 2 other Antonio opuses i ordered at the same time. The first impression after the first listening is very good, the play is looking more improvised than Touch Wood, sounding less polite and static "studio enboxed", more furious strings, more energy, more "badaboings".

Two words; Get it!

Bye.

Post just arrived with my two copies, having ordered from Naim yesterday !

Another really enjoyable AF release, with plenty of quality listening, a superb 'fresh' recording, with a number adventurous musical steps forward.

A definite frequent spinner!

What do you think of the 3 first tunes, Liam? Razz

This CD is like a jukebox, 3 songs for one pound. You have to add another coin to continue... Big Grin

Seriously, just e-mail the E-Store support to take an arrangement. It's a good idea to supply your invoice number in your message, along with the defective CD catalog number (CD #87).

Bye.
