Led Zepplin

A little late to the party but if one didn't have any of Led Zepplin's work on CD are any of the box sets worth having - I have red different reports on the quality of remastering.
Thanks in advance

Get the original CDs mastered by Barry Diament on Atlantic except Led Zep 4 which was Joe Sidore. They all sound better than the subsequent reissues, some of which are worse than others. But avoid 'Mothership' at all costs.
Good news is that they can be found pretty cheaply on flea bay or Amazon marketplace.

Thanks Joe, makes you wonder about the reviews on amazon - most claim mothership sounds really good..... must all be i pod users!
Shame there isn't a decent sounding box set though.
Advice much appreciated Joe

Thanks Munch - I have this and thought it sounded pretty "muffled"
A real shame the 200g vinyl is so expensive so will take Joe's council with regards to CD's - I just thought the box set of studio albums looked good value but if they sound as muffled as the best of box set I have then I will give up with box set....
Thanks
Gary

The original Led Zeppelin CD's as mentioned above are the best to get, but although the music is superb, the recordings are not incredible.
I would avoid the box sets anyway, and the compilations, as each album has quite a definite feel, even 'Physical Graffiti' which includes some tracks left over from earlier recording sessions.
If you are starting out with the band 'IV', or the 'Four Symbols' is a good place to start.
IV on wikipedia
If I had to pick a favourite it would be 'Physical Graffiti', but all the albums up to that point are worth getting. I love 'Presence' too, but there are quite differing opinions on that album. Only 'In Through the Out Door' is patchy, probably only for completions sake.
The live 'DVD' is really excellent too:
Hope that helps. No doubt others will say exactly the opposite, but Led Zeppelin maintained a high standard of work throughout their career, so there is no one definitive album to get.

They must be deaf, the CDs are an insult to recorded music.

You can't tell on amazon but some folks on e-bay will spell out that they are the originals from Barry.

Try one of the originals. I can assure you "The Mothership" CDs are peak limited and loud to the point of ear pain on some tracks. With the original CDs you can turn up the wick without the sound becoming ragged. They are not close.
