CD3.5: discs slipping

Posted by: Mekon on 10 May 2003

I must be cursed with the highest percentage of cheap thin CDs or something. Last night I was in a reggae mood, but loads of my Trojan discs were a nightmare to get going, and struggled even when they did get going.

I have two pucks, one safely in a bag when not being used. The other gets stored on a wadge of blu-tack. I've teased out the rubber hooks, I've swapped pucks, etc.

Are there any other fixes? Doesn't the CDI have an extra grippy puck? Is there a different puck available for CD3.5 users cursed with an abundance of skinny discs?

Mekon.

Some cds will still be a problem, check the centre, if round the hole there is a further recess, (Many warner CDs were like this) then attach a small amount of sticky tape where the rubber of the puck will impact the cd. This normally cures the problem.

I believe these is really only two kinds of puck, the early top hat puck (as used in most CDis) and the normal flat puck, they are not interchangeable, if you are going to get a new puck, get one for the CD3.5

I found that when I had a CD 3.5 this hapened a lot. However, a CD-R copy of the slipping disk would always spin up and play perfectly. The slipping disk would then go straight back to the shop for a refund...

Cheers,

Tim
