Hello all,
I have seen this 2-CD set in HMV ....
Egarr : complete GoldbergIt is claimed to be complete [I assume all repeats] and also has canons based on Goldberg theme.
I already have Edith Picht-Axenfeld on harpsichord and Gould on piano [and a few other versions including Jao Martins and Angela Hewith]. Both the Picht-Axenfeld and Gould I love [Picht-Axenfeld is 2 CD's].
Is Egarr special ?

James,
I do not have Egarr's Goldberg Variation. I have him playing Mozart with Manze and he is very good.
Celine Frisch is playing magnificently the Goldberg (including the canons) on the harpsichord on the Alpha label.
http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/hnum/3933763I very highly recommend it.
Funny, both labels are using the same image.

Haim

No records of him but live in Bach a couple of years ago in Malvern, at the Festival Theatre, sorry I mean "The Forum," he was wonderful both as soloist and accompanist to my favourite Baroque Violinist, Racheal Podger!
I would imagine he would record a wonderful set of the Goldbergs.
Kindest regards from Fredrik

I heard part of this on Radio 3 a while back and it was one of the things that prompted me to explore Bach on the harpsichord (though in the end I didn't buy the disc in question). However, I would suggest you consider the Walcha set, which is quite magical (and would probably be one of my desert island discs). Sadly (for reasons best known to EMI) it is only available in France, but at under 20 euros from their Amazon, and coupled with his Well Tempered Klavier and one or two others, it's exceptional value for money (you can also have a listen to samples of all tracks - variation 19 is really lovely):

Thanks for all the advice .. I will probably do nothing about the Egarr version until I need/want to buy a few CD's from USA. I will probably buy it at that stage.
