How do I connect my AV2 to my Nait5i???

Posted by: dan scott on 06 January 2007

Hi everyone, please can you help my with this connection so that my Nait5i can power my front speakers. I have been given a 5pin-5pin DIN with the AV2 that the connections manual suggests is a special one for the AV2-112 but of course the 5i AV input is RCA's not a DIN.

I've got a Chord Chrysalis DIN-Phono on there at the moment but can't get anything through the Nait.

Do I have to enable pre-outing of the fronts through analogue input 3 on the AV2?

Thanks for your help!

OK i've just swapped to using the din-din that came with the AV2 only I put it over the Nait5i's tuner input as that is a din plug. It now works!!!

Could my chord chrysalis be the wrong cable? I presumed a normal DIN-Phono would suffice bu as I incorrect?

Cheers

further update, if I connect up to the unity gain on the Nait5i from analogue 3 on the AV2 using the Chord Chrysalis and tun the AV2 volume up to full I can just hear something coming from the speakers (literally just) is the Chord cable not the right direction or pin alignment possibly? (eg are the 2 phono plugs coming off the wrong cables from the din plug?

Can I take my 5pin-5pin din supplied with the AV2 to a dealer and get them to put phono's on or do Naim sell a phono-din plug for the AV2?

Dan,

The 5 Pin-5Pin din cable that is supplied with the AV2 is a 'reverse' cable and is designed solely for the use of connecting the AV2 (from input 3) to a pre-amp. That is why your regular Din-Phono plug did not work.

Input 3 when used as an output to a pre-amp should be left unconfigured (---)

It sounds like that you will have to have Naim make you up a 'reverse' cable with the correct orientation that you require.

Thanks for that Nick, I had a horrible moment last night when I thought the AV input on my 5i may be faulty!

I'll try calling some dealers tomorrow as I don't know anyone open on a Sunday and see if they can make me up a cable or whether they can doctor my current cable to work between my Nait and AV2.

Thanks

Very surprised that the dealer you bought it from didn't pursue what you were going to hook it up to, and offer to source you the correct cable.

everyone including myself forgets the Nait5i is mainly Phono inputs, if you're dealing with pre-amps and din sockets all day you're bound to overlook the 5i's rca's every now and then. I'll call him tomorrow and see if he can help out. \

I have to say I was so impressed with the dealership I bought the unit from. It was the first time I used them and the whole expeience was superb - advice, opinion and help all the things a dealer should offer (Along with a good cup of tea! hehe) A credit to Naim!
