he seems to have gone quite far already.

If you haven't picked up the follow up, 'Gold', its definitely worth getting.

Its a little less country than Heartbreaker, and a little more upbeat in tone. IMO its a much better album, with lots of songs the equal of 'Winding wheel'

He's great in concert as well - reinvents the songs, does great covers and plenty of witty chat.

Apparently he halted a concert in New York and ordered the lights turned up afer someone in the audience shouted "Play Summer of '69".

yes there are lots of stories like that -

e.g. he played a cover of the Strokes 'Last Nite' at his manchester show and then got pissed off that it got a better that his own songs and sulked for the rest of the gig.

However these are all just music journalists showing how much they resent his success, and are just made up.

I have a recording of the show where 'Summer Of 69' is mentioned, and far from halting the show, he actually found it very funny and it acted as a springboard for some very amusing stories.

Still, At least it gives them something interesting to put in the NME wink

If you're still lucky you can pick up Gold with the bonus disc. Well worth it even if it's been manufactured in Australia eek

Can anyone tell me what "La Cienega" means, I really love La Cienega Just Smiled from Gold and it would be cool if I knew what he meant by this, Thanks, Mario.

Cienega is Spanish for a marshy meadow, although can be applied to almost any water source.

On "La Cienega Just Smiled" he seems to be placing the blame for his failed relationships onto something sedentary (La Cienega), rather than take the responsibility for them himself

It's also the name of one of the main streets in Los Angeles. But I doubt if that helps you much...

According to Google:

The Spanish word "cienega", meaning a marshy place, was evidently applied by the early Spanish explorers to almost any water source.

Not sure what that has to do with smiling.

Well, thanks for the insight, can't say it's what I expected, but it's still a great song, Mario.
