Having just arrived in the States from Europe, I was delighted to be able to set up my lovingly shipped CDX, 72/140/Hi-Cap Credo in my tempory residence (in the attic). The CDX is new and sources as a US machine, purchased in Europe and the 140 and Hi-Cap have just been converted to 110V from 230V. Each power unit has it's own plug socket.
Having set everything up (actually I haven't connected Hi-Cap yet) I powered up the 140. To my horror I was greeted by what sounds like an electric razor coming from the Credos. I turned the volume down, switched source selector, but no change. On closer listening to the speakers I could hear one of Washingtons crap radio stations!? although no source was plugged into the 72.
Ok, so I undid the 72 to check for loose boards. Everything secure. Re-connected the CDX and put in a CD, turned the volume up and Viennas finest Kruder&Dorf started to do their stuff, but on turning the volume down, that buzzing sound still (and it is loud!)
Advise as appropriate:
Huge amount of RF interference?
Buggered 140?
Loose connection somewhere in 72?
Shut up and play another CD.
Advise most welcome.

.... but I'd suggest you look around your neighbourhood for a powerful radio transmitter. I get the same hum and radio noise you decribe when a taxi or courier van parks outside my house (although I obviously get the driver's chatter rather than a dj's!). Being in the attic, you're in a susceptible part of the house for this. Could you try it down stairs, at least as a temporary test?
The other thing that comes to my mind is that you may have an earthing problem, that's not allowing the RF interference on the cases to go to ground. In the UK you can get pretty cheap socket testers, which you plug into the socket, and they check the earth connection. You may be able to get something similar in the States.

Having had a look around, there is a huge radio mast about 2 miles up the road, so it looks like that is the problem. Luckily I'm only here for 3 weeks, so I'll put up with it until I move.
Thanx for the help
