Desert Island Discs

Posted by: Alex S. on 18 May 2002

With due deference to a certain animal from across the border, I thought I'd run a similar thread here. This is what I said there:

Sandinista
Ziggy
Mahler 2
Bartok sonata for strings and percussion
Shostakovich Piano No 1
Elgar Cello
Porcupine Tree - Coma Divine
Ozrics - Waterfall Cities
Imperial Bedroom
Wynton Marsalis - In this House on this Morning.

I think DID has 8 discs, but who cares, I've got 10.

I could live with that lot 'till I'd hollowed out a tree trunk. But, as always with these things, I might take a different lot tomorrow. . .

Alex

PS My 'luxury' was a toss up between an endless supply of Aussie Cab Sauv or a blow up sheep just like my charming, mechanic neighbour's.

Changing daily, even hourly, in no particular order and leaving way too much great shit out, here's ten:

Joni Mitchell - For The Roses
Lyle Mays - Lyle Mays
Keith Jarrett - Facing You
The Beatles - Rubber Soul
Wayne Shorter - Native Dancer
Ravel - String Quartet
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
Miles Davis - Nefertiti
James Taylor - That's Why I'm Here
Pat Metheny Group - Speaking Of Now

I know I'm probably taking a different line to everboy else, but I were reduced to 10 CDs I couldn't live without at least some complitations. With that disclaimer out of the way, hear's my list

Ennio Moricone: The Mission OST
Hans Zimmer: Hannibal OST
Beethoven: 9th Symphony
Faithless: Reverence
Faithless: Saturday 8pm
Faithless: Outrospective
Jean Michel Jarre: Honk Kong
Various: Chilled Euphoria
Various: The Classic Experience (not sure if volume 1 or 2)
Various: Diva*

*an anonymous compilation of classic female vocalists. Any other such compilation will do as long as it has Julie London: Cry me a River, and Nina Simone: Wild is the Wind on.

My list would have been completely different if were were doing it as on DiD and selecting tracks that have influenced us through our lives...

Till later,

Dave
