Jim Magilton's Blue & White Army

Please see Royle leaves town for full context.

Jim Magilton couldn't hide his delight at being named as Town boss and immediately targeted a return to the Premiership as his aim. The 37-year-old becomes the youngest manager in the Championship and will be joined by Bryan Klug as his first-team coach.

This Club means the world to me and when I walked off the pitch after the Derby game in what I thought would be my final appearance as a player here, I always had the feeling that I would be back sometime. It comes quicker than I expected obviously but I am not intimidated in anyway about the job. I embrace it although I am under no illusions about the task ahead. Ever since I started in the game I have had the utmost belief that I have all the credentials needed to be a manager and I know I have the support of everyone at Ipswich Town. If you have that backing and are united as one, then the purpose can only be to provide success on the pitch. The Premiership is the goal, it has to be the goal and when you look around the place, it is a Premiership club in all but status. It's our job to provide that status. It's obviously a very proud day for me, to be announced as manager of such a wonderful club and I'm fired up for the job. I and can't wait to get going with the players. Bryan's the same. We will hit the ground running come the first day of pre-season, you can be sure of that.

Worry not, Mark - another East Anglian team has its sights on bottom spot. Big Grin

It was a pretty good game really - we had chances to win, especially near the end, but Rangers had a fair bit of the play. Didn't understand Jim's tactics of dropping Pablo to the bench - don't you need your best players on the field? I don't like playing one up front and would have preferred to see a more attacking formation. Still great goal by Sylvain Legwinski - what a volley.

It's another point and if we win our game in hand we'll be up there challenging.

Sorry to have missed this season big East Anglian derby, but I simply couldn't get there today.

Well I couldn't make it to the game, but picked up the commentary. A goal behind to the Us who were playing well and a penalty conceded - it sounded bleak, but then Neil Alexander saved the spot kick. The play went to the other end and it was 1-1 - Jon Walters converting Dan Harding's cross. Soon after, a corner - Owen Garvan swung it in and Liam Trotter scored on his home debut. Two minutes later and Danny Haynes had sealed the points.

Tractor Boys 3 -1 Colchester United

So there it is a 3-1 victory in the big East Anglian derby between the region's two top teams. It sounded a great game from what I heard - wish I'd been there.

Now let's take some of that home form away with us and we'll be OK this season.

Which seems to put Town 8th in the Championship Table which seems to be only 2 points behind 2nd!

COME ON YOU BLUES!

Brilliant, brilliant brilliant performance - the Wolves are good side and we simply annihilated them.

Alan Lee what a goal.
Pablo Counago what a goal.
Danny Haynes what a goal.

Neil Alexander what save from yet another penalty.

I can't believe how well we played after the open moments when Wolves looked a top side, we were all over them. We won tackle after tackle, we passed superbly and our finishing was clinical - with a bit of luck it could have been eight.

Can we reproduce this week after week - no idea. So let's enjoy it why it lasts.

No manager of the month awards, please - just let Jim do his job quietly and as well as this.

An very very happy Rotf

Yes I was there - try to get to all the home games, it is just under a 4 hour drive each way for me, but worth it. I can't make many of the mid-week games. There used to be an Ipswich Town supporters club in the village, but the other member moved.

I first watch them when Sir Alf Ramsey was manager. Sir Alf, as we all know, was the man responsible for the greatest moment in the history of English football - yes Ipswich Town winning the championship in 1962 Smile

We won the old second division (now the Championship) in 61 and immediately came up and won the first division (now the Premier League) - the year after. Nearly 50 years ago and history does have a strange way of repeating itself.

PS - Dropped by post office on the way.

I hope we can keep this going - our away form has improved, but is not up to our home form - next up are those Squawkers from Budgieland and I can think of no better place than that to get our first away win of the season.

Whether it will happen ....

We don't have a great record against the Budgies despite the fact we have always been a much better team than them .... the form book sometimes goes out the window. I hope Delia keeps off the pitch.

Even though Colchester has supplanted the Budgies as East Anglia's third team - after Ipswich and Ipswich reserves - I think they are still regarded as the old enemy. I would say though that as a city, Norwich is a very nice place Smile

A team on the up, AND some pennies??

Things are looking up again - roll on our first away win (0-3) this Sunday!!!!

The new investor should ensure our return to the Premiership - just so long as Jim doesn't follow in George Burley's footsteps and buy overpriced hasbeens in January! I'd be happier hanging on to the cash and trying to get promotion with the existing squad. Anyway I'll just be happy if the new owner is on hand to watch us smash the Budgies this weekend!

I've also been asked a question by one of my work colleagues. Is there a formal link/MOU between Ipswich and Brighton? We've noticed a lot of Ipswich players going there on loan or in the case of some of our recent triallists, having a shot with Brighton after the Blues have run the eye over them? Thoughts, opinions, facts?

C'mon the Suffolk Punch!

regards,

Giles

A great first half against those Squawkers (which I listen to on the radio), but a rubbish second half (which I saw on TV). Yet another 2 points thrown away - this is third time it has happened this season. Let's hope we can recover from this and remain focused for Tuesday night.

BTW referee Rob Styles was hopeless IMO - too many cards and disallowed our third goal.

The new investment sounds good, but I really don't want to see us buying expensive players - I'm happy with the set we've got and think today's second half was just a blip (I hope so).

I'm not aware with any link with the Seagulls (Brighton) - Colchester once seemed to have lots of old players - I just think it happens.

Nice of you to say so, but 1 point from two away games against fairly mediocre opposition doesn't bode well - we're fine at home, but useless away.

Everyone's beating Bryan Robson's lot and then when it's our turn - nothing. I thought we'd be OK when I heard Jon Walters had equalised, but we ran out of steam towards the end and not for the first time.

Not a bad performance this weekend - our finishing could have been a bit better, but I suppose at 6-0 we mustn't grumble.

Of course, John Walters was magnificent and his superb hat-trick was one of the best I've ever seem. It was like John Wark at his best.

Pablo Cunargo was supreme again - everything he did was effective and his goal was stunning - jog in to box, shrug aside one player. ease past two more, wait for defenders to position themselves for a cross, and pass ball in to net.

I thought the goal by David Wright was the pick of the bunch - he started the move and just kept going and arrived in the box to meet Alan Lee's superb cross with a bullet of a header.

I'm sure Bristol City will have better days, but they didn't look like a team near the top.

Now - we need to take this form on the road - no more lacklustre performance like the one against those squawkers or not turning up like at Sheffield.

Rumour has it that Jim will have £12m to spend in the transfer window - but it needs to spent cautiously - remember Chelsea paid £30m for Ukrainian who wouldn't have made it in to this weekend's Bristol City side - so money is not a passport to success.

Great to here Jim has signed up for another couple of years Smile Smile Smile Smile

We've really got to improve our away performances - not only to stand a chnace of going up, but staying up.

I think this is one place George went wrong. Having built a real team to get us up, it was then "we're in the Premiership and need lots of expensive [overseas] players..." It's not just a case of throwing money; the money's got to be directed correctlt!

A bit of wasted trip to see Town players perform like England internationals - yes it wasn't pretty. Cardiff are not an easy side to play against - a bit Bolton like (well Bolton of a season or so back). We did hit the post and have one off the line, but we no more deserved anything from this match than England deserved to be in Euro 2007. Not much else to say really - we play better at home than away. If we could sort out our away performances we'd win the division, but it seems like we can't so we won't.
Posted on: 27 November 2007 by Guido Fawkes
Well I couldn't get the match tonight, but another home victory - this time over Southampton with goals by Jon Walters and Pablo Couñago. So it's up to fourth now.
Posted on: 28 November 2007 by JWM
Keep plugging away, and tighten up playing AWAY (please!)...
Posted on: 30 November 2007 by Guido Fawkes
We were lucky to beat S'ton last year - still we've had a bad luck this year too - we really should have won at Burnley, however, the ref gave our third goal offside, the linesman signalled Pablo offside with his white stick.

Well, next up The Tykes - should be a good match.
Posted on: 02 December 2007 by Guido Fawkes
Well I don't blame the Tykes - they cam for a point and they got it - a huge defensive wall that blocked our efforts all day and when we did break through the Barnsley goalkeeper (Heinz Muller) was immense.

Mind you they broke forward a few times and Neil Alexander was able to show what a superb goalkeeper he is.

Disappointed we couldn't force our 13th home win on the bounce, but looking forward the start of new run that I hope will last even longer - and a few away wins, starting at Bristol City on Tuesday.
Posted on: 02 December 2007 by Guido Fawkes
Portsmouth and Portman Road in the Cup - I think we can beat them, but not sure we've got the squad for a long cup run.
Posted on: 04 December 2007 by Guido Fawkes
Another away game without any points - nonetheless we played well and it was another outstanding performance by the opposition goalkeeper - I'm getting a bit tired of them saving their best performances for us. We deserved at least a point against Bristol City, but it was not to be - a long range effort and a dubious penalty gave Bristol 2 goals with their only two efforts at goal. We had all the play, numerous chances and no goals. Keep going Jim and we'll crack this away nonsense yet.
Posted on: 08 December 2007 by JWM
Oh dear. It's till not going well away, even if today Pablo's goal was - by all accounts - an absolute cracker!

Are we really going to have another Christmas in mid-table mediocrity? As many points below being safely in the play-off zone as above the budgies...

James
