Jim Magilton's Blue & White Army

Posted by: Guido Fawkes on 05 June 2006

Please see Royle leaves town for full context.

Jim Magilton couldn't hide his delight at being named as Town boss and immediately targeted a return to the Premiership as his aim. The 37-year-old becomes the youngest manager in the Championship and will be joined by Bryan Klug as his first-team coach.

This Club means the world to me and when I walked off the pitch after the Derby game in what I thought would be my final appearance as a player here, I always had the feeling that I would be back sometime. It comes quicker than I expected obviously but I am not intimidated in anyway about the job. I embrace it although I am under no illusions about the task ahead. Ever since I started in the game I have had the utmost belief that I have all the credentials needed to be a manager and I know I have the support of everyone at Ipswich Town. If you have that backing and are united as one, then the purpose can only be to provide success on the pitch. The Premiership is the goal, it has to be the goal and when you look around the place, it is a Premiership club in all but status. It's our job to provide that status. It's obviously a very proud day for me, to be announced as manager of such a wonderful club and I'm fired up for the job. I and can't wait to get going with the players. Bryan's the same. We will hit the ground running come the first day of pre-season, you can be sure of that.

Yes James Pablo's goal was superb, but I can't think of words appropriate to describe the rest of our display, so I'll simply quote from the words of Jim Magilton

The first half performance was totally unacceptable, inept and embarrasing. We set a team out to match them but in the first half we never got near them. We lacked character and bravery especially in midfield and that really disappointed me

It disappointed me too.

Things can only get better

Couldn't make it to the match tonight, but listening in it sounded another excellent home performance. We had 70% of the possession to Leicester's 30%, we had 12 shots on target to their 4 and most importantly we scored 3 times and only conceded 1. Up to 7th - goals by Pablo Counago, Alan Lee (netted the penalty this time) and Jon Walters.

Like to say congratulations to Chasetown - glad we haven't got them in the next round. I think they've got a great chance against Cardiff (how on earth did Cardiff win at Blackpool). Good result for QPR too thanks - that put us up above Burnley.

Couldn't agree more Scotty! We've been saying it all season (and last season, and the season before, etc, etc....)

hi james,
hows bobby robson now ? havent heard about him for a while now since the illness he had.

Last I saw was him getting the BBC Sports Personality Lifetime Achievement Award on Sunday. Clearly still affected by his illness, but great to see him, and hear him give a coherent, funny, respectful, truly grateful and quite moving without-notes acceptance speech.

Lovely tributes from Franz Beckenbauer and Sir Alex Ferguson (the Gaffer was genuinely chuffed that Fergie handed over the prize).

Franz Beckenbauer

I really enjoyed seeing Sir Bobby, Sir Alex was very good, but I thought Franz Beckenbauer's tribute was fantastic and didn't he look well - what a great guy and player - he should have been English. His comments about Ipswich were wonderful and his attitude to Germany's victory over England in that semi-final was exemplary - no gloating just real pride and respect in taking part.

What a fantastic game - end to end stuff, both sides working hard and playing good attacking football.

Town 3 Scunny 2

Scunny scored first, but then a decisive touch by Pablo put us level. A couple of minutes later and Owen Garvan danced around the keeper to put us in front and I thought here we go, here we go, here we go, but none of it - Scunny came back with a decent goal to make it all square at half time.

In the second half it always looked as if, if one side were going to win it would be us and sure enough it was with a firmly struck Tommy Miller free kick.

I think Scunny will play far worse than they did at Portman Road and win - one of the best teams I seen visit the hallowed turf this year.

Still we continue to show great form at home and lets hope it continues next week - the crazy fixture list gives us 3 home games in a row. Then we are away for all the Christmas fixtures.

One of the best games I've seen this year.

Europe's only unbeaten home side is please click here (with due thanks to Everton) - shame our away form wasn't better - perhaps after Christmas Smile

We played OK and Burnley are not a nice side to play against - I doubt they'll win many friends and certainly haven't deserved the point they got in either of the games they played against us this season. Burnley played most of the game with 10 men and if there was a card more severe than red than Spicer's tackle, or more correctly assault, on John Walters deserved it.

Last week we narrowly beat the excellent Scunthorpe who played good football and this week we drew with Burnley who didn't. I feel sorry for Burnley supporters as we only need to watch them at most twice a season - presumably they have to watch that lot every week. I've seen some great Burnley sides come to Portman Road over the years - this wasn't one of them.

Ipswich had 13 shots on goal against Burnley's 0 (none) - says it all, but then so does 0-0.

Could anybody explain what the term away win means? I'm assuming it is allowed within the rules.

Nor home win Jet Winker

At least the next few games are at home ....
Posted on: 29 December 2007 by Guido Fawkes
More of the play than Coventry and twice as many efforts on goal, but they scored twice and we only scored once and that's all that matters - the red card for Tommy Miller was ridiculous.

ROTF - I rarely go away nowadays, and probably get to every other home game, but we were AWFUL (especially in the second half), against a pretty poor Coventry side at that.

too much xmas pudding perhaps ?
ROTF- keep the faith fella,it will come good eventually-trust me.

Thanks Scotty - I am keeping the faith.

I agree with RoyleBlue we were awful in the 2nd half at Coventry

However, we were fantastic in the second half against a very good WBA yesterday. 2-0 and it could've been more.

Next up - Pompey in the cup - I know they are good away, but we are even better at home. I think we're going to win.

ATB Rotf

100% record for 2008 so far and yet to concede a goal - I hope this is the shape of things to come.

It seems that the better the opponents are, the better we play.
Posted on: 06 January 2008 by Guido Fawkes
It's deja vu all over again - well David James was man of match and if he'd played for England against Croatia then we would have been on our way to Switzerland.

We were the better side - no question - but you can't play with 10 against 12 and win. Portsmouth are a good enough side with 11 players, but when I saw they had 12, one of whom had a whistle and some cards, then I knew it was not going to be our day.

What a dreadful referee - arrogant as he was incompetent - don't the FA know fans pay good money to see a game between two talented and totally committed teams, not to see some clown who doesn't know the rules - he did his best to ruin the came.

The referee original told Liam Trotter that he was getting booked. Joe Jordan [Portsmouth's revoltingly ugly coach and, as far as I remember, a complete donkey in his playing daze] was in the fourth official's ear telling him it was a sending off, a straight red, which did not really help the situation. However if Joe Jordan has influenced an experience referee, then football really is in trouble. Ipswich will not appeal against referee, Mark Halsey, because as the referee himself put it - he is a professional and is 100 percent right.

As Jim put it: Maybe he will go to Lourdes and repent, he may have a look at it. I doubt it. We will see. Maybe we will have a sit down and think about it, but I am not going to beg for mercy.

Liam was a little bit late, but from an experienced referee, it was a caution. Liam is 19 years of age, but he has not got a malicious bone in his body. An experienced referee deals with it. I have asked the referee at half-time and he has told me he is a professional and he is 100% right. That is what we are dealing with

So we'll be concentrating on the league again without the distraction of a cup run.

Portsmouth are a good side - Nugent is always a pain and took his goal well, but James won them the match with three outstanding saves: twice from Danny Haynes and once from Alan Lee. The fact that a 10-man Ipswich were the better side against lofty premiership opposition bodes well for the future.

Oh well - good luck to Portsmouth.

I rest my case the man should not referee - please click here for the evidence.

rotf,
you woz robbed as far as i could see (which was only motd highlights)
we have the best league in the world with the worst refs ! incompetent to put it mildly.
look on the bright side son you held your own against top premiership opposition so bodes well for next year when you play them again in the top flight.
all the best, scotty

Ah well another year of the 'get knocked out of the FA Cup to concentrate on promotion fight' strategy (though this time not self-inflicted)...

Ho hum.

..The frightening thing ROTF is that I used to think Halsey was one of the better Premiership referees ....it could have been worse though you could have had (gasp) Steve Bennett - arrogant prick that he is (Keano loves him as well!)
Posted on: 13 January 2008 by scottyhammer
all the refs are tossers in the premier league.
IMHO. Razz
