Big Mistake (could be expensive)

I made a big mistake last night that is going to cost me a few hundred pounds.

I borrowed a HiCap.

It seems that at some point between me plugging it in to the 42.5, and turning it on, some hi-fi benefactor must have sneaked into my lounge and replaced my hifi for a much better one.

My existing components cant make the noise these new one make, thing is they look identical, and all I have done is given the pre amp a better power supply.

Has any one else experinced this?

I might have to buy a hi cap now.

I emplore anyone running older kit to high cap the pre. I have been in the wilderness too long, now I am back in the fold.

Hi Simon

I've looked at your problem and I think it may go deeper than "just" this hi-cap you speak about. I actually think I've managed to trace your mistake right back to when you first purchased that 42.5/160. You were completely doomed from that point big grin

The Hicap is the most under rated Naim box.

They really do improve CD3.5's and pre amps.

I have two in my dining room system and it sounds relatively awful if the Hicaps are removed.

I bought one 16 yr old totally knackered model for £175.00 and Naim totally refurbished it for £88.00 and it pushed the CD3.5 up several notches.
So for about £250.00 I had a brilliant piece of upgrade kit.

The Super cap has a similar but better effect on
the NAC 82.
