ID Cards - good idea or not?

ID cards - jolly good idea (if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear)or yet another step towards complete Governmental control of your lives?

All the checking means the data collection couldn't be fully computerised. If each person's details took just 1 hour to collate and confirm, you would need 10,000 processors working for 3y to complete the process once for the whole population by which time about 50% of the cohort would have changed address.

Sounds a winner!

What if it becomes an offense not to have an ID card? What if you have to answer a lot of intrusive questions to get one? What happens if they introduce a cashless society and they take your ID card away?

When this happens I am out of here! Puck them all! ATB from Fredrik!

Irrespective of the wrongs or even rights in respect of id cards. Consider this - it is another government it project. It will only go horribly wrong at an eye watering cost.

Looking at the list of id centres just makes me think yet more government employees are required. What is it costing?
