Suede Rug

Hi,

I have found something fantastic for room treatment, its a suede rug from Ikea its made from strips of suede woven through a backing when I saw it I realised it would make a good sound absorber with lots if heavy fingers of suede sticking out, and it sounds fantastic I nailed on my wall to replace a thin rug behind my sitting position and what a difference it makes the sound clearer and the bass is quicker, I think I will have to toe in the speakers a little as I have a slight hole in the middle. What a cool thing, a suede rug doesn't it sound so decadent, everybody who has seen it just wants to run their hands through it its just so tactile. Its called Fakse and its 1200 by 1800 (4' by 5' in the old money) I have spot lights to illuminate it so at night it looks stunning.

I spotted it myself while my wife and I were wandering through Ikea. However, when I suggested that it might have good sonic properties, my wife quickly and vehemently vetoed it from an aesthetic perspective. I must say, it looks "interesting". smile

Hi, Mike

My wife didn't like it when she first saw it, but then I managed to purSuede her, I am sure that you could influence her subtly, they do make a lot of difference and they look great under a spot light or two. And they feel great to lie on naked... oops forget I said that.

Hi,

The picture doesn't do it justice, the lighting is wrong its really three dimensional in the flesh, its only good to show you the colour.

Now, can anyone suggest a good damping material to line curtains to be made for a listening room? Well, if not, I will make them with whatever the fabric shop suggests as a liner.

The liner is much less important than the overall porosity and the airspace behind the curtains (distance to glass/wall). Having curtains cut wide enough so they drape in folds will do more - by increasing the surface area; and increasing the airspace behind will lower the frequency at which they start to absorb sound.

How can I. I have an indelible and rather disturbing image of you somehow lying naked against the back wall!

Its enough to bring Samantha Jones out of retirement.
