The Passions of Vaughan Williams
Posted by: BigH47 on 29 August 2008
Just watched this fascinating programme. A composer I knew nothing of (although I recognised some pieces). His passions for the ladies,2 in particular, his non sexual,(in the main) marriage and his sexual long term affair were shown to have influenced his music.
From what I heard further investigation is required.

Dear Howard,
Did you record it?
I have no tele, so such progs pass me by, but it would be fascinating to see if there is some motivation in the music. A lot of it does not really have the involvement of Elgar or Walton for me, and I am curious, because I always felt there was some "extra-musical" key which might explain a way into VW's music for me. Such an exploration might explain a few things indeed ...

My classical knowledge is weak as I know little of Walton. I have some Elgar though.
I'll record the programme again, contact me via e-mail (in my profile).
