... is not a jazz guitarist i know well. but i picked up "works for me" from a friends recommendation and thoroughly enjoyed it. the line up is solid and includes -- brad mehldau on piano!!! i knew i had "art of the trio vol 3" in my collection, but was pleasantly surprised to see that i also had his "places" album too.

so much to listen to and so little time...!!

anyone recommend any other good scofields worth trying?

enjoy...

"A go go" - which was introduced to me by a nice chap from Naim at a CDSII/52/500/NBL demo last year.

Also "I can see you house from here" which is with Pat Metheny.

Both very good.

Cheers

We seem to keep reccommending things to each other!

One day we must arrange a time to rifle through each other record collection. Probably needs to involve beer.

Give me a yell if you ever get near the deep south (Hampshire.)

I notice that John Scofield is listed on Miles Davis' 'You're under Arrest'. Production, Guitar and ... he wrote the title track!

It also contains Miles' wonderful version of Cindy Lauper's 'Time after Time'.

Herts and Hants. Gosh you might only be about 4 hours drive from each other. Spooky.

I highly recommend Scofield's album Hand Jive with the great, late Eddie Harris on sax. True funk.

..."I Can See Your House From Here", his collaboration with Pat Metheney or "Grace Under Pressure". (No not the Rush album of the same name, although that is excellent too...)

Scofield is one of my favorite guitarists.

Works For Me is a fine album -- I was just listening to it this morning! The presence of Billy Higgins adds sheer class to the music.

I second the recommendations on the pairing with Metheny and Hand Jive. You can't really go wrong with any of the Blue Note or Verve albums.

I don't really care for A Go Go because I don't think much of Medeski Martin & Wood. Personal favorites are also Quiet (Scofield on acoustic guitar!) and Bump.
