New Pink Floyd Al***!!

Yes, I thought that would attract your attention even though it's not happening.

The new albums by Wild Beasts and Friendly Fires are really bloody great but threads flagging them up elicited not one single reply. I watch down hearted as they drift off the foot of the page into oblivion.

Does the forum principally consist of an ageing demographic mostly comfortable on re living the music of their youth at the expense of ears open to new music? Discuss!!

"Comfortable" yes. "At the expense of" no. Thanks for the recommendations Smile

"If you need to talk about these bands so badly why dont you go on there sites or write a review of the albums on Amazon or other selling sites"

Or maybe I should post on the naim music forum Roll Eyes

You posted on the Music forum, and nobody was very interested. You then posted a deliberately misleading heading to get attention, and wonder why people are Not Impressed.

Thoughtless and selfish.

Stu, given the quality of most of the Floyd's post-Waters output I think we should be trying to get people's hopes up for no more new Pink Floyd albums. Winker

Personally, my heart sank when I saw the title of this thread... Big Grin

I agree with you, Kevin. I love Floyd material and even though some of their work is undesirable if I had heard it in isolation, the body of work they've done puts the undesirable stuff in the desirable light.

Everything post Waters doesn't have the intellectual depth which I so liked about the lyrics. I may have said this before, but for good quality Floyd music to come about, you need the friction and tension between the prime lyricist and the prime guitarist. You can hear how much more 'musical' post Waters Floyd is compared to Waters solo stuff; you can also hear how much more poetic Waters solo stuff is compared to post Waters Floyd.

Aside from Wright's death, Pink Floyd will never happen again. What I do like, however, is that there are numerous tribute bands playing classic Floyd... and this will always go on.

What I do envy is that I know there are Floyd fans on this forum who have had the privilege of being fans during the real Floyd era and no doubt saw their concerts during the 70s!!

Regards,

Jon

I actually put quite a bit of thought into it. Sorry about your humour bi-pass.

Then you should have thought more. My view remains, and remains correct.

New Pink Floyd Album?
Perhaps not as fanciful as Gordon Brown saying "SORRY".

I would love to have seen them pre DSOM - But weird.
Post DSOM quite brilliant.

But then again...

I've recently asked on the Pink Floyd forum about the remastering of WYWH, which is actually likely to be the next PF album. Seems as though its been done, but EMI are in no rush to release it. Next year will be the 35th anniv of WYWH, so here's hoping.

Rumours also of a video anthology...

I'd heard that too Mike. The Floyd (Gilmour and Mason, but not Waters, who's apparently not interested in this kind of thing) have been buying stuff up from broadcasters and film-makers (including Anthony Stern) these past few years. There's some stunning stuff pre-1972, especially from Europe. Not much from 1972-80, but the 1973 Earls Court gigs were professionally shot. There is some very poor quality footage from 75 and 77, but only, AFAIK, in fragments.

Quite a few of "The Wall" shows (including rehearsals) were also shot, by Alan Parker and others. I've seen some it, it's quite dark, but I'm sure it could be enhanced using modern technology. But Roger Waters owns that.

There's lots of post-Waters stuff of course, but for me that's not really Pink Floyd and of little interest.

Intriguingly, Dick Carruthers, he of Led Zeppelin DVD fame, has been working on a "project" for the last two or three years...

Do you mean the 2006-08 DSOTM tour? Don't think so Stu, Carruthers' "project" pre-dates that.

Thanks for clearing that up Mike. Really eternally indebted to your humour and wisdom.

I think RW takes the view that "its all out there",. wrt audio stuff - bootlegs, alternate mixes etc. and so he is not pushing that side of things. The fact that he has no part in Pink Floyd Music 1987 Ltd is of course a pure coincidence...
