Haydn's Military Symphony Suggestions ?

Posted by: uem on 08 December 2003

Hello everone,

Had a chance to listen to Haydn's Military Symphony, with Zürichs Tonhalle Orchestra, conducted by Christopher Hogwood.
I found the performance quite interesting, but then I never heard this sypmphony in full before.

Any recommendations of recordings ?
Could be a "traditional performance / old instruments" or on modern instruments.
I admit- however -, I do prefer those with excellent / audiophile (?) qualities...

Thank you for your input

I'm a modern instrument / big band kinda guy, so keep that in mind. I say try Beecham on EMI or Jochum on DG to start, and perhaps consider Slatkin of RCA for more modern sound.

Thank you Todd,

I'll see whether I can obtain any of those here locally.
Anyone for an alternative with old instruments ?
