Best Internet WiFi Radio

Posted by: Mike-B on 09 February 2010

Hi folks, looking for ideas & recommendations on the best way to pick up internet radio over a wireless Broadband Hub link.

It looks like a toss up between Sonos & Logitech
I like the flexibility of Sonus in that I have 2 amps that I could use a zone player on, plus might add another in the office.
I like the cheaper Logitech although cash is not a problem, its just that I don't want to spend a fortune on something I might not get on with after a while.

NB: I am keeping the Arcam T32

The AppleTV now does internet radio, with the added fun of a local music server.

I’ve just been working my way through this very question so that I can continue to listen to BBC channels whilst at my new house in the Czech Republic. In the end, I settled on a Logitech Duet and I am very pleased with the results. I’m using it in a 32.5 180 IBL system, which murders poor sources, but the Duet is fine. I’m used to good radio having had both NAT-01 and 02’s in the past but I don’t miss them too much. A Logitech plug-in allows the BBC iPlayer to be used, which enables the higher quality streams to be accessed as well as the last 7 days programs on-demand.

Logitech have a new player coming out shortly called The Touch, which reputedly has improved sound quality. It might be worth waiting for this. I’m planning to get one for my main system.

For sound quality I like my NainUniti. It uses vTuner to provide the station list, and you can manually add stations if they are not listed.

For portability my Nokia mobile worked very well in a Swiss hotel room. Roberts make a number of WiFi radios, the latest models will also play music stored on a uPnP server.

Can you describe how you add stations manually? Thanks.

Go to http://naim.vtuner.com, enter the mac address of the rj45 ethernet port and on a later page the URL of the station that you want to add.
