My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges

I missed this one when it came out in the summer. After seeing it in so many best of the year lists I took a punt.

Much more experimental than their earlier work and all the better for it IMO. Good recording as well. Highly recommended.

I agree Simon, I really liked their early stuff but they lost their way a bit on the last two cds. This one encompasses several styles. More than a jam band now.

I'm still not sold on this one, as I find it very difficult to get past the first three songs. Plus lyrically Jim James seems completely obsessed with sex on it. For me "It Still Moves" is still their masterpiece.

Will be seeing them live tomorrow along with Neil Young at the Big Day Out in Auckland. I believe they are very good live.

A funny old thing is music.

The first three tracks from evil urges are really strong in my opinion. Although I own and like "it still moves" I find some parts of it a little bit of a durge.

As for the sex obsession, you say that like it's a bad thing! Winker

Yes it is a funny old thing and that's what makes talking about it with others so interesting. It would certainly be boring if we all liked the same thing Smile

BTW - the were great live. Plus they did "Evil Urges" and "Highly Suspicious" in the set too - these tracks definitely make more sense live.
