Beats, Digging, Turntablism, Hip-Hop Recommendation

If you like any of the above I strongly recommend the new movie "Scratch" which I just saw last night. It is a documentary of sorts that traces the history of hip-hop, scratching, etc--interviews the first guy who ever did a scratch, early influencers (remember Herbie Hancock's *Rockit*?), Afrika Bambaata (sp?), Q-Bert, Cut Chemist, DJ Shadow, many many others. Various segments of the film. To me the most mind-boggling was DJ Shadow's tour of one of his digging places--a basement with vinyl stacked floor to ceiling. Maybe a 1,000,000 records, no kidding.

Scratch appears to be only released in the art-house type theatres. Search "scratch movie" to find the website with locations and dates and clips.

Fun and strongly recommended.
