A message to our moderator

Hi Richard

I have no problem with your moderation, which has been excellent. However, your comment below needs to be corrected.

"OK, I think this thread is reaching the point where it's run it's course"

As the official voice of Naim, and follower in Adam's footsteps, you have a duty to deploy 'its' and 'it's' correctly. 'It's' is an abbreviation of 'it is'. 'Its' is like 'his' or 'hers' and needs no apostrophe. So when referring to a dog's tail, one writes 'its tail' rather than 'it's tail'. So it should therefore be 'its course'.

I hope that little lesson is helpful.

Now someone can slag me off for being irritating, anally retentive, patronising or whatever!!

I took it to mean that all music is worthy.

Because it is music.

And that's what people do here?

Please correct me if I'm wrong BH.

The trouble is, the hifi side of the forum has become amazingly dull, and the music room has been taken over by proggers.

I must report that I have finally acquired a Brooks B17 for the Raleigh Royal, after coveting one for nearly 30 years! And very nice it is too.

We need another compulsive upgrader to worry about!

Nigel

Mr Hungryhalibut

Just to out do you, I have a Brooks Flyer which is the same as your B17 but with chrome plated springs to provide extra comfort.

My saddle is, therefore, considerably more comfortable than yours.

You have a bum saddle, try upgrading it.

Regards

Mick

Mick

When I bought the B17, I looked at the Flyer, but the chap in the shop advised me that it was really for the older gent, rather than a vital young thing like me.

So no need for the 'upgrade' for few years!

Dear HH,

Buy it now for the certain day in the future when you will enjoy it! Brookes may not still be trading by the time you get old enough to agree with Mick!

We are, I believe, the same age, so you are clearly young and vital too!

Nigel,

hi. In this page:

http://forums.naim-audio.com/e...652944317#2652944317

lies my very first answer I got from you. At the time I found it harsch and unmotivated, but I hadn't got the spirit of this forum yet. Then I met you and your family and I thought I understood that you're just a very upright person (I hope the word is right), and upright persons usually feel it's their duty to be always upright.

I would have risen the point of apostrophes a number of times myself, but after all, who am I to question English people's grammar? And I suspect that the move from Adam to Richard also meant a certain loosening of the surveillance - so to speak.

I don't agree with you on the necessity to correct Richard (not on relationship grounds, I mean) but I very much appreciate that you felt it worthwhile to risk being hated by the many to come in aid of an innocent grammar problem.

I love to be radical myself. So many chances are given to me nowadays to be radical. BTW, I had grown a real addiction to Naim, so I have sold all my equipment and am now floating inside a strange feeling of freedom.

The money I got from my third Powerline is going to the Cancer Research. Unfortunately offers were not excessively generous.

Have a good time,

Massimo

When I first read Massimo's post I thought it was erudite witty and rather nice ..... but now I'm not so sure.

I wouldn't want to risk telling something I don't mean - a foreign language is a trap sometimes. And I consider Nigel a friend.

What I wanted to say is, a person who is built on principles of some kind and remains faithful to those principles.

Or was the idea itself?
