The Great British Driving Test (ITV)

Posted by: blythe on 23 January 2004

Did anyone see the Driving Test thing on ITV the other night?

I couldn't believe that only 42% of people in the studio audience and at home passed the "mock" exam.

Most of the multiple choice questions were ridiculously easy, only with one or two exceptions.

The questions were apparently "typical" of the real driving test.
You could then opt to go on-line and "try again" with a different set of questions.
Again, I found most of them really easy and scored exactly the same as with the TV test.

It certainly helps me to understand why there are so many bad drivers on the roads - too many people simply don't know the rules of the road!

Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

That was one of the most dissapointing programs I have seen for ages.

Like you Blythe I was amased by how few pople actually passed the test. I sat at home and watched it with my partner and we scored 34 out of 35. The only one we got wrong was the sign outside the school.

To me the whole program was a farce!

On my own, I scored 33 out of 35. With someone else I may have faired better - or worse even (arguments etc.)
According to the web site, that score of 33 was "outstanding".
I nearly missed the stopping distance one purely because I learnt it many years ago in feet so had to do a quick rough translation!
Rattling my brain trying to remember which ones I got wrong and why.... Mmmmmm
