He's appearing next month at the fabulous Band On The Wall in Manchester. Just been reading the write up on their mailout and I'm tempted. He's one of those names that I've heard of yet know virtually nothing about, other than he's a highly regarded guitarist. The Band on The Wall is such a great small and intimate venue that I've got a feeling it could be a good night.
Any fans on these boards and what do you reckon of him as a live attraction.

I would expect he is pretty good live in concert as there is no doubt he is an excellent guitarist. I guess the question is what kind of music is he playing with his band. He can range from dammright cheesy (wear your hawaiian shirt and sunglasses) to superb authentic jazz guitar and a whole lot in between.
If he was playing near me I would give it a go as it might turn out to be a good night out. I guess it will most likely be quite "smooth". However if he grooves, then well worth seeing.

So hawaiian shirts and sunglasses are cheesy? I'll have to rethink a few short sleeved shirts and get plaid and stripes.

Lontano covered his output pretty well.
I must admit to being more hawaiian shirts and sunglasses style than full the jazz mode.
Think Wes Montgomery. He is probably best known for being in FourPlay, he was replaced by Larry Carlton .
Plenty of his stuff on Spotify if you want a listen before hand.

No, but smooth jazz is, imho. But I can enjoy it in the right circumstances, like driving an open top car round Maui in my hawaiian shirt.

Not close enough to get me there.

Surprisingly, no.

Definitely worth seeing, his live set is normally a lot less smooth than some of his laid-back recordings.
