Raoul Moat appears to be dead

Posted by: TomK on 09 July 2010

Sorry but I have trouble feeling anything but relief and sadness for those directly involved.

Doubtless there'll be questions asked about why it took so long to pin him down.

Once he had gone on the run, nobody else was hurt and that's a result. Dense woodland in leaf is pretty good cover if you know how to put dogs off your scent.
I bet Sky News is disappointed.

Once the police had him pinned down it was just a matter of time before the inevitable result

Job done, shame he didn't do it before he caused many people pain and anguish. We are better rid of him and all thoughs that would do the same.

Once, he was off his head. Now....

It does make me smile when you here them say he died at the hospital. Shotgun to the head, hmm let me think for a moment, nope he died where he squeezed the trigger

Or a few feet back.

I concur

Moat was, indeed, a "nutter", despite yesterday's craven apology from Plod, who ought to have shot the b*st*rd on sight when they found him 100 yards away last night.

He had, through his conduct (shooting three people, including one death), given up any 'human' or 'basic' rights, and Plod should have reacted accordingly. He was scum, and deserved to be dispatched accordingly. But Plod were - as ever - depressingly slow to latch onto the basic facts.

I'm not sure the rozzers are to blame. They operate to guidelines too, and on occasion treat people as innocent til proven rich, sorry, guilty. Too many mutters have been shot by coppers in the past. Remember the incident with the guy toting a deadly chair leg?
Posted on: 10 July 2010 by graham55
Tony, there was NO doubt about this particular nutter. He bragged about his crime before, during, and after, the offences in question. Plod would have been perfectly justified to shoot to kill, on sight.

Or, put another way, they adhered to the law of the land. Roll Eyes
Posted on: 10 July 2010 by deadlifter
If they had done him on the spot i`m sure some people would be screaming police brutality
Posted on: 10 July 2010 by graham55
Not so: they adhered to the sad modern doctrine of political correctness! (They went so far as to issue an apology to this nutter yesterday for calling him a nutter!) I have described above why the criminal law would have enabled them to shoot this particular brute on sight.
Posted on: 10 July 2010 by Tony Lockhart
I for one shiver at the thought of the police acting as judge and jury. And, I prefer to see murderers suffer in prison.
Posted on: 10 July 2010 by graham55
As do I, but not in this case (for the reasons explained above).

Maybe Plod should have shot the brute with a tranquiliser, instead of goading him for six hours? Anyway, I've wasted more of my life than I had intended, debating this human piece of excrement, so I'll sign off here!

A sad individual & NOT human excrement.
Maybe a few sandwiches short of a picnic & not connected with real world reality
Maybe with a few "friends" who misguided, encouraged or supported him over the years & during the last week.
Maybe involved in the murky side of Newcastle underworld who gave hm a deluded outlook on life & society
I see it as a sad episode in a life that was maybe never going to make it, & the why & wherefores of that is a whole other story.

Cant believe Sky news are STILL going on about it.

I’ve just seen on the news he was tasered. Surely tasering a man with a finger on a trigger would have a predictable outcome.
Can it be said he shot himself.

It’s just been announced the fish and chips shop in Rothbury will be re-opened.

You can have a little fishy, on a little dishy, now the Moats done in.

Wasn't this guy just released from prison ?

So neither rehabilitated or monitored. Was the system to blame for letting someone so disturbed out in public ? Or did he con the parole board or did his sentence run its course ?

Aint it funny how things change? Years ago, if you had a moat around your village you felt pretty safe.

A comment that has been doing the rounds on Twitter, according to an acquaintance who frequents that site.

Must admit, he did seem a bit re-Moat ... *groan*

I heard on the news last night that relatives/people who knew him want the police complaints commission to investigate the taser aspect.
