Sorting genres on Naim Desktop Client
Posted by: Yvan on 29 April 2012
Hi everyone,
I have a problem. On my Naim Desktop Client when I prompt all genres on the right pannel, they are not sorted by name (alphabetically). Is there something to do in order to solve this ? this is really annoying when I want to assign genres...
thanks in advance !
Yvan
Hi Yvan - I take it when you say prompt you mean amend the name of the genre? Given the strange nature of the standard genre titles I have amended some myself and have been left with same issue.
While not killer I agree it is annoying, hoping that the forum will have an answer
Hi Prubast, Hi AllenB, thanks for your informations. Yes, by 'prompting' I meant to describe the way the genre names are shown by list into the DTC. AllenB, we are on approximately the same level of experience in that perticular field I guess for I've experience the same stuffs as you and concluded with the same things. But still, the genre names are not in alphabetical order and this is part of few things that really surprise me for a company such as Naim, with such a level of attention to details and "thoroughness" when it comes to music re-play...
Thanks guys, and welcome to anyone else having a contribution to share !

You can sort the genre's in alphabetic order, by double clicking on the "Genre Name" column heading. Also you can re-sort the order, if you wish, by dragging the relevant genre up or down to the desired position.

Thanks Gerry - all sorted.
I had been trying to drag and drop on the left menu without opening the genre window! I have to say though Naim DTC is not the most intuitive system....
I have found the browser interface is much better than the dtc with anything to do with genres.

In DTC, you change an albums genre just by dragging it into one of the genre folders on the left hand pane. But it will only change if it's dragged to a genre that occurs on any of the Naim Stores, but not the Network Shares. As far as I have found you cannot edit genres of music on Network Shares via the DTC, you have to go to the server that holds the shares to edit those genres, in my case I have to open iTunes and edit genres there, then do a Network Share Refresh in the web interface (or DTC) for this to update on the Naim server.
I think this also applies in the web interface, i.e. you can't change genres of albums in Network Shares there either.
Hi Allen,
You can't alter the genres of anything on a *SHARE* from DTC as shares are regarded as "read only" by our servers - we don't change anything on a share and you would use whatever tagging application you like to edit those.
Cheers
Phil
Yeah ! As Prubast said, thanks Gerry ! - all sorted.
I had as well been trying to drag and drop on the left menu without opening the genre window!
And to answer to thebigfredc: when one has to assign genres on plenty of albums, it's really much more handy to drag and drop them. But of course this worth only the cas when one has sorted the genres alphabetically !
Thanks again Gerry !
