Bug? Black and white album artwork...

Posted by: solaay47 on 29 April 2012

I have noticed that the n stream app is not picking up album art work that is black and white/monochrome (it appears fine on my other dnla clients). I add some colour via an editing tool and hey presto it appears on n stream. Has anyone else come across this? Is it a bug?

Hi

The only album (of 650) that I have any trouble seeing the artwork properly for is Kings of Leon - Youth And Young Manhood.  This is grey on white and the grey is 'barely there' (it's almost completely white on the nStream app) - might try changing for an image with more contrast.  I do have several black and white covers and they're reproduced fine.

Strangely, the only album cover that doesn't show up on my system is Kraftwerk's 'Maximum-Minimum', which happens to be black and white.  Having said that, the Beatles 'Past Masters Vol. 2' (also black and white), shows up fine.  Paradox....

I've replaced the offending artwork with a higher contrast one now and it works fine. Not sure what the issue with your black and white album art is. What's your UPnP server and how is the album art stored (embedded in the music files or as folder.jpg/cover.jpg? Cheers Ian

I found out that the app has a problem with 8-bit grayscale jpg's. If you can covert them to 24-bit RGB, everything will work out just fine.

I'll post a request in the n-stream requests topic about this.

Thx. I'll give it a go. I've got paint shop pro to convert the graphic to 24 bit. What editor do you use to update the meta data/graphic?

Hi Simon,

I use a combination of Mediamonkey to auto-update the meta data and a script in mp3tag/album art downloader for the graphics. I too use a Synology NAS.
