Transcode FLAC to WAV in Asset or "as is"

Posted by: Thorsten_L on 02 May 2012

Hi there!

What is better: To let Asset transcode the FLAC-file on my PC to WAV or stream it in Asset as a FLAC, using the default "FLAC as is" replay?

When I check FLAC as WAV, the ND5Xs shows in the info the file as WAV...

Hi - whatever sounds best to you. I personally let Asset transcode flac to wav. as I prefer the way wav sounds, but there are others on this forum that hear no difference. Fortunately on Asset it is a simple click of the mouse to change one way or other as you have probably found.

Hi Thorsten-

I have Asset do the conversion, even though I do not hear a difference (but I understand why, in theory, others may).  The advantage I gain is that my non-FLAC compatible devices - my AVR and my Apple devices running Plugplayer - can share Asset's UPnP service.

Good luck!

PS - First ever post from iPhone, so hopefully reads ok!

If it can why not - it certainly won't sound worse and some devices may sound better - although I can hear no difference in my set-up if it were an option on the Vortexbox then I'd still switch it on.

Thank you.

I will let Asset do the work.

I have no issues streaming flac from Vortexbox to Plugplayer on my iPad!

The Vortexbox guys have been asked about transcoding flac to wav but they seem to find the idea awfully amusing and utterly pointless ....
