Why is second hand dearer than new ?
Posted by: mista h on 02 May 2012
Just been on to Amazon to order a NEW Jazz 8 CD box set.
The price NEW was £7.63, 2ND hand it was £14.75. I then checked other CDs and found the same.
Maybe i have lost the plot and need to be taken to the funny farm but i always expected S/H cds to be cheaper.
Perhaps one of you experts out their can explain!!!!
A puzzled Mista H
Because.
And
Simple... the second hand ones have been checked already for you and found to be OK, whereas with new stuff you run the risk of it not being OK and having to go through the hassle of returning it etc etc... surely this service is worth paying extra for.. (isn't it?)
cause the s/h folks haven't adjusted their price to the new reality yet.
It might be that the set was previously unavailable and the S/H items were posted when the asking price reflected this. Then again, some sellers are stupid.
These sellers might have set those prices, but do they sell any at those prices?
On E-Bay you can look a finished auctions to see what sold or didn't .

rjstaines - I'm curious as to any problems you (or others) may have run into buying new CDs. I've been buying new and used for over 25 years. The only problem I've ever had was an occasional cracked jewel case when buying through the mail. I just replace the case myself with a new one. Maybe I've just been lucky as far as the CDs themselves?
- implies I thought Mr RJ of Staines was not 100% serious
You are just as likely to get a duff second hand as new one (can you be 100% sure a CD has never been played before).
If the new one is faulty you simply return it.
The guys advertising s/h CDs do not keep up to date with Amazonian price changes - hence they get undercut on occasions .... they only ask what they think they'll get - they most likely get nothing if new is cheaper so eventually will drop their price
I find previously-owned oil paintings are much more expensive than new ones...

zoverstocks is a good seller.
I have never had a duff one from them.
PS,
I Bedini mine.
I only have a Dual Beam ultra clarifier box.
