OK for a rant?

This is a whole hearted endorsement for the work force of O2.

2 weeks ago my youngest's phone came up for upgrade so she got a iPhone 4S and bequeathed her 3G to me. So far so good. I'm on Orange so Hannah fills in the online form to free my "new" phone from O2. Process should take 7-10 days she checked all was going along last week about 7 days in, "progressing" was the response. She checked this AM and "sorry we don't have a request for that phone" , she gives the details again , " it will take up to 10 days ".  Bloody ****wits.

I have been on the complaint chat help, needless to say getting no further, not even the offer of of an "express" service.  I realise this is a no earner for O2, but really.

I suspect this "huge" operation is no more than a few entries in a database and the ending of an e-mail with the "free up code". Based on my many years with BT, cellphone exchanges being all electronic all alterations are keyboard operations.

If anyone has any actual information?

I know it's pretty trivial, but hey ho I've nothing better to do. I haven't counted the number of words though.

Hi Howard,

I unlocked my iPhone 4 from O2 a few weeks ago. I called customer services, and all went well. I wasn't told at all that the phone needed restoring to finalise the unlock, but that's what it needed.

It really was hassle free, and I've nothing but praise for O2's customer service. The only reason I'm ditching them is that their signal is almost non-existent at work. I've an Orange sim in my iPad, and I get a 5mbps download on their 3G signal. Actually, it shows Orange/T-Mobile on the screen.

Tony did get your phone "freed"  over the phone or did you have to wait?

I have stuck with orange because it seems the best coverage.

As a result of the phone call Ireceived a code by, I think, text, and followed instructions, then restored. Apart from the aggro that goes hand in hand with a restore, it was quick and easy.

Tony,

What time scale  between phone call and email for the code?

From memory, about one day, but they said up to three days.

Thanks Tony, maybe because your phone was currently being used on the network, it was quicker? Not that I can see why it should be.
