2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship

Tournament is on. Is this only for the people living north side of 60th parallel or does rest of the world care (or even notice)? Here the main topic related to games seems to be the outrageous ticket prices (starting from 155€ per home game). How much would you pay for an ice hockey match?

I used to like a bit of NHL and Olympic ice hockey, but now the NHL has gone to subscription channels I have lost touch.

You do have to concentrate to follow the puck on TV though.

Hope you enjoy the championship.

Jamie, thanks I will. Today another close win for us only by 1-0 (football score again).

I would of loved to have played Ice Hockey at school.

Would loved to have played against the masters at the end of term on ice, like we used to on grass.

Could of beat even more shit out of them in the name of sport.

Hi Osprey

I've been watching some of the highlights online. http://www.youtube.com/user/icehockey

There are four games being streamed this afternoon / tonight - hopefully I'll have chance to watch one.

Great Britain plays in the level below and just about avoided relegation in the recent pool games.

Best wishes

Hi Gavin,

Hopefully you have/had a chance to watch some ice hockey this afternoon as you planned. Here (in Finland) the home matches are shown in free television but all others are on in pay channel. Some highlights are shown though. Today Finland is playing so I am going to watch the game later in the evening.

It is nice to notice that there is some interest for ice hockey also in Britain although your glory days in international level are at least for now behind (the championship year was 1936 if I recall right). Yet maybe there is some bigger success waiting in the future and at least you managed to keep your position in division I.

Best regards,

Mika

It was yesterday. Slovakia won 3-1 (Russia beat Finland 6-2). The final between Russia and Slovakia is just about to start. Earlier today the Czechs took the bronze medals by winning Finland 3-2.

Thanks for the score.

Now this is over for this year. At the end Russians were quite superior. They won all their matches and most of them by hefty margin (final against Slovakia 6-2). A little disappointment for us but frankly the expectations were too high after the success last year. And as a little anecdote, the home team has last won the championship 1986 in Moscow (the mighty CCCP) so the odds were against us.
