1.6c Update

Posted by: The Meerkat on 05 May 2012

Hi guys

Just read the thread on updating the US to 1.6c. I have downloaded the update folder to my Mac. Now what do I do with it? Burn it to a CD, DVD or what? Anyone done it?

Cheers

Hi David,

Please see the earlier thread for more info:

 https://forums.naimaudio.com/di...nt/15927322083291468

In short  you need to burn the download to cd (not DVD & burn a disc image with an iso  burner and nit a data cd)

Insert cd into UnitiServe, after about a minute it will eject. Wait about 10 mins, shutdown by holding finger on front panel for 5 second and then turn off and back on again using back panel switch

Hi there Prubast...Thanks for your quick reply.

Disc image ? iso burner? Please could you explain to me what these are? Do I have to purchase it/them?

Thanks

David

Hi David,

Apologies Just noticed you use a Mac - as you may have gathered  from the earlier  thread no add ons are required for us W7 users, i simply had to click the download file and press burn image to disc. I seem to recall there is a link contained in the supplementary HDX instruction that provides a link for mac users.

Would be surprised if it is more difficult than W7!

David,

Here is the guidance contained in the HDX 1.6c supplement instruction regarding how to burn an ISO CD or disc image using Mac OS X Snow Leopard - I have no idea about mac's so hope this helps!

Step One
Launch Disk Utility from Applications:Utilities

Step Two
Click to select
Open Disc Image... from the File Menu.

Step Three
Navigate to your .iso file, select it, then click the
Open button

Step Four
Click to select the disk image from the bottom left pane of the Disk Utility application.

Step Five
Click the
Burn toolbar button.

Step Six
Insert your blank CD then click the
Burn button.

Step Seven
You will be notified once the burning process is complete.

Help!

I have burned two discs using 'Disc utility' on my iMac

The first : 1.6c software updater.iso. I put this in the Unitiserve SSD, and after about 30 seconds it ejected the disc. Then rechecked the software, it still showed 1.6b. (so I assume that did not work)

The second disc: NSSRv_upgrade_vL 1.6c.dmg. has been in the US for nearly 30 mins and can hear the US spinning. Is it updating, or is it now stuck?

Anyone with a Mac done an update on a Unitiserve yet?

(I have posted a previous topic, 1.6 Update)

Cheers

The uServe can't read that .dmg file.  You should eject that disc.  The first one may have been it -- mine ejected the update disc I burned (on my pc) pretty quickly and just sat there, so I assumed it didn't work.  Then a few minutes later I happened to notice the Naim logo blinking . . . then it went solid.  When I checked on my iPad it was at 1.6C

Thank you Bart...The disc containing the .dmg files, is still spinning in the US, for 90 minutes now. I will try to eject it.

Ask your dealer burn one for you.  That's the dealer support that we pay for when we buy NAIM equipment.

My dealer couldn't burn a piece of toast!! Not going to use him anymore? I asked him about a month ago to get me a DC1, I think he has forgotten all about it....again!! I spoke to him this morning re the update, he more or less told me, to "Ask him one on sport" Will go to Tom Tom...I think.

I have another thread running on the same subject. It appears that I may be burning it correctly, but it won't update. The disc that I have burnt, is identical to the one RJStaines suggested.

Thanks

That's truly sad.  Deaers like that should lose their franchise before they give Naim a bad...... name!

Yes it is. I Intend using another dealer to buy my DC1 and a Hi Cap.

Try a different brand of CD (Seriously, macs prefer -R)

Also turn down the burn speed to lowest.

Posted on: 06 May 2012 by The Meerkat

I am using TDK CD-R80. Will try the lower speed though.

Thanks garyi

now you see I am not sure of this 80 business, when I were a lad, it was 70.

Get standard CDrs, yours are extended or summat,

I have not had great success with iso images. What I find works is opening the iso image in Mac...than copying the upgrade folder to a public file. I then use VMware fusion to burn the upgrade file from windows. I upgraded this morning with this process...no problems

Upgraded using Mac standard disk utility to burn the iso. Upgraded my HDX to 1.6c without any problem.

Hi Hoekie

I have tried this six times now. Buying new discs. Burning at a slower speed etc...

Tell me, the disc that you have burnt for the upgrade, how many, and what folders does it show? My disc has three folders. Desktop Client, Manuals and Upgrade. When I open Upgrade, it shows five Zip folders. Is that what you have?

Just ton confirm. An iso is burned thus:

Open the image by double clicking it.

Insert cd

Open disk utility

The iso will appear in the left hand pane, select it, click burn.

If you are moving folders with the mouse, you aint doing it right.

The 1.6c Updater.iso appears in left pane. I click on it and burn it.

After it has been burnt, I check what is on the disc, which shows three folders. I am told by many members that this has burnt correctly. Is this what your disc shows?

I have just created another disc, burning it at the slowest speed (8x) The disc is only in the Unitiserve for 10-12 seconds, then it ejects. I leave it for a good 20 mins

I check the interface on my browser, it does not display a message "Please wait" or any other signs that it is updating.

I then check System Settings, and it still shows 1.6b.

I think I give up!

Garyi....are you referring to pc or mac...I think they are not the same...also is the burnt cd inserted to the unitiserve when powered up as normal or in standby mode ?

Posted on: 07 May 2012 by The Meerkat

It's a iMac.

Inserted as normal, with the US on.

I don't have an HDX so don't have the disk, however if yo want to give me your hdx that would be fine

It sounds like fault with either the mac or the HDX. The easiest thing would be to burn the disk on someone elses machine, if it still fails then its probs the HDX.
