Unable to update Unitiserve SSD to 1.6c

Posted by: The Meerkat on 05 May 2012

I have burnt a disc using 'Disc Utility' on my iMac. The disc that I have created is 1.6c Software Updater.iso.  I have mirrored the instructions given on 'iClarified', "How to burn an iso Disc image using Mac osx".

After burning the disc, I re-inserted the disc into the computer to check the contents. The disc shows three folders. 'Desktop Client', 'Manuals' and 'Upgrade'.

When the 'Upgrade' folder is opened, it displays five zip files/folders. NS01, NS02, NS03, NSHDX and NSSRV Upgrade v1.6c. As far as I am aware, this indicates that I have burnt the disc correctly.

I then inserted the disc into the Unitiserve SSD, which then sounds like it is reading the disc. However, the disc is ejected after only about 10-12 seconds. I have tried this several times and also burnt a new disc in case the other was faulty. I have also shut down the unit and turned it back on again.

On checking 'System Settings' in the browser interface, it still shows 1.6b.

Before I call the 'Hot Line' on Tuesday, can anyone tell me what I may be doing wrong please.

Thanks

Are you able to connect a monitor to the US, so that you can see exactly what it is doing ?

I upgraded two USs yesterday, of which one SSD, and the disc was ejected shortly after having inserted it.

Try leaving the US do its thing for those 10-15 mins after the disc ejection and then shutdown and back up as per the procedure, and then verify the version again.

Good luck !

The only folder on the disc should be that upgrade folder...

Burn that to a new disc and try again.

someone said  the update takes ten to fifteen minutes. What its doing when you insert it is reading the date to ram then ejecting, then updating.

You soUnd like your are not giving it enough time.

Hi Chris

Burning the iso image of the update download, includes Desktop Client, Manuals and Upgrade. The Upgrade folder then contains the zip files/folders. I tried seperating the folders, but selecting 1.6c Software Updater.iso includes three folders? No idea how you would separate the three folders, whilst still keeping it as a iso image.

Hi garyi

I'm leaving it for hours and also switch it of and back on again.

Hi sbilotta

I am viewing the interface via my browser on my iMac? Don't have any other way to view the interface.

Sorry, not much help when it comes to Mac users.

The disc should have just one folder, 'upgrade' with the various .zip folders within it. Insert the disc, it will come back within 1 minute then wait 5-10 minutes for the setver to update itself. The server needs to be on 1.6b alredy for this update to apply.

If you have burned the iso file to a disc, can you take the 'upgrade' folder from that disc and burn it to a new disc?

Hi Chris

I did exactly what you said. I copied the Upgrade folder and burnt it to a new disc. After this, I checked the contents of the new disc. It displayed five various zip folders. I then inserted it in to the Unitiserve. After about 10 SECONDS,  it ejected the disc. I waited about twenty minutes, then switched the unit off and back on again....The bad news, it still shows the version as 1.6b.

The disc that you used to update your Unitiserve to 1.6c, was the folder called Upgrade? And did it contain the five zip folders? If so, that's exactly what I have.

I'm wondering if my unit is faulty...

I put JUST the .iso file onto a cd rom and upgraded with that.

Someone in the UK should just mail you theirs and you'll be done with it I bet!  I'm happy to mail you mine but from the States it'll take a bit longer.

Here's an off the cuff thought...

Not all blank CDs are created equal.  Are you using a cheap, unbranded writable CD?   If so, you could try to get hold of a 'branded' writable CD and give that a go.

This might sound crazy, but with a good many years in IT and personal experience of this, trust me, it 'ain't as silly as it sounds!  What can be read by your PC might not be read properly by your US... and what you describe certainly sounds as if it isn't recognising the CD.

...as I said, just a thought.

Thank you so much Bart

I need to be able to do this myself, for future upgrades....and my own sanity!

Sounds possible Roger. The fact that the CD is only in the Unitiserve for about 10 seconds, before it ejects the disc.

As I said though, I am using TDK CD-R80.

I too have had no success at upgrading my Unitiserve to 1.6c

I have found a system message in the DTC which is labelled under severity as engineer, category as upgrading. Message reads "Error(7009)=the command name 'backupxml' was not recognised Source=Vader Utility".

Is this a problem with the upgrade software or the serve?

Hi Tim

Not sure about that. The kind people that have tried to help me, have all upgraded successfully.

I have spent all day yesterday and most of the night, trying to do it. I never give up though! If you have DTC, then you must be on Windows. However, the Unitiserve doesn't know that, or care where the Upgrade disc is from. I think, that providing the disc is correct, the Unitiserve should update.

Good luck

Hi WonkyBit,

I tried to rip a CD soon after posting the above, only to find that wouldn't work either. Sent the Serve back to Naim expecting to have the CD drive replaced. It turned out to be a faulty SATA optical lead.
