Speed up your broadband

Posted by: Consciousmess on 07 May 2012

Hi,

I don't know if this will be permitted, but I have sped up my broadband from 5.5Mbit/s to 8.5Mbit/s just by fitting an I plate.  Outstanding!!!

I will not give the link as that implies marketing and goes against Naim protocol, but if you haven't done this, do so as it costs less than a fiver!!!!

+1 for iPlates, they also improve the stability of the connection, particularly if your connection is marginal when you are a long way from the exchange.

Nice and cheap and easy to fiT, you do need a standard BT master socket though.

Jon, yes there are lots of options and in new installs BT will offer to fit a master ADSL socket to  allow you to connect your house phone wiring downstream from the socket. This dispenses the need of having seperate ADSL filters, and therefore stops the ring wire in your home phone wiring going high impedance. It is this wire than can act like an antenna and pollute your ADSL. The single master socketalso extracts the ADSL signal near the point of entry rather than after, often less than ideal, house wiring.

My BT ADSL master socket took my speed from about 2.4 Mbps to about 3.6Mbps on ADSL Max. Living where I do this is pretty good going.. I am not holding my breath for superfast to come to my tiny village.
