Over the moon

I'm a long term Naim fan with a CDS1, 52 and 135s, which I love. I have been looking at streaming options and I'm using an Airport Express, optical link and old Deltec PDM2 Dac at the moment to try things out. Naim confirmed today that the CDSP can be used to power the NDS (with a different Burndy) which really opens the door for me to take a big step forwards. I really am over the moon about this.  I reallize I may be the only one thinking of this combo but just really wanted to check other users opinions. I live in the US in an area with very little chance of the sort of support you would have in the UK, so all thoughts would be much appreciated.

Hi Ken, What advice/opinion are you looking for? If you opt for NDS, that should be the best option. That eliminates the necessity of having SPDIF/DAC combo and avoids having redundant DAC + power supplies lying around.

Hey thanks for replying. I think I was looking for thoughts on whether people thought that the NDS CDPS would sound better than an NDAC CDPS.

I assume by CDPS you mean the power supply of the CDS1.  Naim say that Olive and CB XPS are not suitable for the NDX etc, so I seriously doubt that your CDPS would be suitable either, as it was the forerunner of the XPS.  I have CDS1/CDPS too as part of our living rfoom system.  If you are seriously contemplating the NDS you will need to budget for a power sujpply as well.

Ken - I'm sure if Naim have confirmed just a modified Burndy is all that is needed then all will be fine with the CDPS. The NDS should potentially be better than the nDac. Best have a listen to the various options when the NDS is released. Welcome to the forum.

Too early to say. This is the litmus test for me, albeit using the 555PS. July at the earliest but probably later in the year. For me it will be worth the wait and I don't care which way it goes. Either I'll have a new reference source or I won't. The forum will doubtless be heaving with feedback in due course. I'm greatly looking forward to hearing the finished NDS and reading others' experiences.

Dungassin, Steven Hopkins confirmed that the CDPS would work with both the NDS and Naim Dac with a new Burndy. Steven was the person who covered the inability of the other newer power supplies to feed the NDS, elsewhere in the forum, so I'm glad I asked. Thats why it made my day,,,,,,maybe yours now also

James, I live in the US which sadly is a Naim desert in places. It is just not that easy to be able to get to a place to do comparisons, like you are used to, or to have the dealer service we all really admire in the UK or Dubai.

Ken - in that case I'd take the NDS - it should be all the source you'll ever need.
